I was told the left one could be Mithradates II. Drachma 123-88 BC. But it looks "new" . about 2.5 cm x 2.7 cm The right one I do not know anything about. about 1,7 x 1,4 cm
Parthian I agree with the ID of Mithradates II but the size is larger than most of his coins. The standard Parthian reference by Fred Shore lists two (86-87) larger coins suggesting they may be presentation pieces and very rare but the style of this one leaves no doubt. It is a modern fake. The right coin is not clear in so small a photo but it might be trying to be from Persis. The portrait is more Parthian looking than Persis but a right facing Parthian would be quite the find. I'm not sure what the reverse was trying to be. Many Persis types reverses are a little hard to visualize, too, but its style does not convince me either. A larger photo might help but if it came with the fake (left) chances are good it is no better.
Thankyou very much for the info! I tried to put in bigger picture but this page makes it small. I saw another one for sale, it this also fake? See picture below.
Not as obviously fake, but I'm suspicious of this one too. Given the context among two other fakes, I wouldn't bother for a better picture to confirm.
Agree. This last one has a lot of caked dirt which can be added to fakes to make them look fresly dug. The big thing on fakes is that they often hang around with peer groups of their own kind so a dealer selling one as obvious as the first becomes suspect of either not knowing about coins or knowing they were bad. Neither makes me want to buy anything else from him. Good dealers with 1000's of coins make and ocassional mistake but a dealer having three coins and all are suspicious is better avoided.
Thankyou very much for the info! I already buy the first 2 coins... But the other one is from other dealer. It costs 50 dollar. What is a normal price for such a coin? ( if real)
