Hi, I just acquired from an Estate Sale this wonderful Roman Coin, looking in an almost uncirculated condition. It was listed as an Aurelian 270-275 CE It shows some of the best details on an ancient coin we've seen, I guess. But it has no grading. Is there anyone that could, please, shed some light of the authenticity and value of this coin? This is my very first purchase of an ancient coin. All the help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Leonardo
Definitely an authentic piece in excellent condition. As far as value goes, it could be all over the map depending upon from whom it was acquired. Welcome to CoinTalk.
Thank you so much for your quick reply. Is there any place I could get a proper response on value? I acquired this coin at an Estate Sale, but I am not sure who the real owner was, since I just dealt with the Auction House. Again, I really appreciated your help.
someone did grade the coin-- note the AU I would price it around $45 in my store, but on eBay I would start at .99 and let the coin gods decide.
I bet you could sell it for $50-$100. Legends are legible, Restitutor Orbis series is a nice one. Not an expert but that divot in the top center on the back and the lack of detailing in the face on the right are the only major valuation concerns from my POV.
