American the Beautiful quarters 2010 - 2021

Sight unseen, I do not think I would buy these coins for myself.
If anything, I'd only buy the Proof version of a silver 5 oz. coin but these are being referred to as bullion, so is that only MS? if so, probably will not buy any from this series.

That would make sense, he deserves it, and it would be a good looking coin...however, Coin World Sept 14 2009 states (on page 4)...

I primarily collect silver and gold coins. Plus I don't like dead president designs too much, however I did order the latest 4 pc. Lincoln cents bicentennial proof set.

These forums have a lot of great features for customizing your experience. I went through every setting when I registered here to know how much control/privacy/sharing, etc we have access to. It's pretty impressive.

Though I'm not excited about it due to being weary of the different quarters, I'll collect them, but through circulation or face value at the bank. I've got every Washington quarter (except 1932 D, which I will get at some point), so how can I stop now?

If there is a design that I really love from this new quarter series then maybe I would buy a silver 5 oz. version of that design, otherwise I will only pick out an example from my pocket change if I like a given design.

 

The Jefferson and Sac portraits have the facing portrait as you've said but there are camps of people who don't like the facing portraits as well as the other technical issues that limit designs of facing portraits which probably cause a lot of production issues and both time and money to solve. There's just not much physical depth in facing portraits to work with due to a limited number of steps in which to create the illusion of a dimensional face, you end up getting a flat nose and the face looks rather broad. There have been so many side facing portraits of Washington that another one at this point, whether facing or in profile, isn't much going to hurt, but it would be nice to see something fresh. I liked how the 1999 Gold $5 commemorative coin seemed to reference the early colonial General Washington portraits on tokens and coin. Funny he's gotten so much attention and become an icon on our currency for someone who opposed as much.

Die makers can both reduce or increase the scale of any design with a Janvier reducing lathe. You can find in some coin making videos being demonstrated. The lathe traces the design and ensures the proportions are accurately reduced, but you are right that some designs do not work as successfully on the scale that they are not commonly known once people's familiarity recognizes a certain scale for a given design. You would probably see a slightly modified design if this is the case, so that the larger scale coin has the right feeling to it with enough level of detail across certain devices, like hair and feathers where a larger scale piece would have the level of detail visible.

At this time the Perth Mint's Koala (10oz, 1oz, and 1/2oz) and Kookaburra (1 kilo, 10oz, 2oz, and 1oz) coin designs come in these multiple sizes which you could use as an example to compare how the to the 5 oz. bullion American the Beautiful quarters would translate into small and larger scales alike. I think perhaps we will end up seeing an 'updated' or 'revised' portrait of George Washington in use on the new quarter series. Time will tell...

 

the clad proof set and silver proof set will maintained 14 coin in a set. while the mint unc set will have 28 pc. unless there is a change or additional coin. the above 14 and 28 coin will last another few year.

 

I think enough is enough with the quarters just revert back to the regular quarter, I wouldn;t mind seeing lady liberty on a circulating issue coin once more. What are they going to do after that? Capitols? Vice presidents?
