been trying to get a pic of this to share, but gona have to settle for a bad scan(though theres not to much more detail) but i was excited to get one, (for a cheap price) and wanted the share it with you all.
Looks like a M1-E to me. hya: CT's are my favorite coppers to collect! I'm hoping to have half of all the varieties by the end of next year. I've got almost 1/4 of them now and I recently picked up a double struck 1788 M13-A.1 and that makes 2 double struck ones I have now, with the other being a 1787 M4-L Horned Bust with no horn and I have a 1788 that's overstruck on a Nova Constellatio. If you pick up one more, then they gotcha and you're addicted. :goofer: I'm going to be making a CT CT thread in the near future, once I get the time. I've got so much to post, I just don't have the time. Thanks for sharing! :thumb: Ribbit Ps: Any attributable copper is a good copper in my book!
If you don't, you can't! Trust me! Will Nipper (In Yankee Doddle's Pocket) agrees with me on the attribution but you'll have to wait until Monday for Mr. Connecticut (Robert Martin) to pipe in. He's gone for the weekend but he'll be back on Monday and he's the true expert when it comes to CT's. I've learned a lot from him and I bug him on an almost daily basis about something or another. Ribbit
Thanks again I was just gona put "variety:the cheapest on" lol j/k still drunk on ancients though. I guess my next question should be was $20 fair price for this? looking around I thinks so.
Colonials are pretty tough in general. Glad you could get such a great piece of history in your collection.
20 bucks is an excellent price! :thumb: The 85's go higher than the other dates (generally speaking) and to get an attributable Connecticut, any date, for 20 bucks, is a deal! Every once in a while I will get one for $20 or less but not often. I counted and I have 85 different varieties so far and most are R-5's or R-6's. I don't generally buy R-2's or less, since I can get them anytime, so I'm concentrating on getting the scarce to rare ones first and then I'll fill in the R-1/R-2 holes later. Ribbit Ps: A 1785 1M-E is a high R-3.
Thanks 85? geez Well I got the coin at the shop here, and they have great prices . I apreciate all the info the coin too, thanks! now I'm gona try and find one of George III
Robert Martin just confirmed the attribution so you're good to go! I've got 23 of the 37 1788's. I'm attempting to complete 1788 by the end of next year, except for the unique or extremely rare ones, which are only 3 or 4. I also try to pick up at least 1 DBC each month to add to that part of my collection and I got outbid on a 1797 S-135 just the other day, but I'm used to getting outbid. I take what I can get, when I can get it and it seems like CT's come in spurts and I didn't get a single one this week. But I did pick up that double struck 1788 13-A.1 last weekend so I'm happy. DBC's are what led me to collect CT's. They are so much alike yet there are twice as many CT's as there are DBC's so CT's are twice as tough but I think the rewards are exponential! :thumb: Since you've not got a 1785, you should go for a year set and get one of each year. :thumb: But beware, old copper is more addictive than gold!!!! :goofer: Ribbit
thanks again I might do a year by year set (price permiting) still working on gettin a few other coins atm. I've been collecting a wide range of coins, and dont really have any type of coin i collect. But I like these too, so I'll probably keep and eye out for them now
If you like colonials, consider joining C4 and coming to a great convention and auction in Boston every Fall: http://www.colonialcoins.org/
Never been to one before so this will be my first. But I'll warn you, it won't be the same. :secret: I'm going to introduce everyone (as many as possible) to a Flaming Toad. There will be a lot of hangovers the next morning, if'n they get out of bed. :goofer: I wonder if Jack is going? He'd love Flaming Toads. hya: Ribbit
