Well-done, Kanga. Tough date. Don't particularly like the dark around the mintmark but it otherwise looks like a nice, clean piece for the grade.
It didn't thrill me either. BUT Considering the date/mintmark combination AND The NGC slab, I felt it was at least legit. This is one of the coins that the TPGs look at VERY carefully.
looks nice! I'm wanting to pick up a D to go along with my S, the only problem is that my S is graded AU and I would like them to match in grade! Talk about alittle steep!!! Speedy
I don't claim to be an expert on these coins, but I would be very uneasy about a 1932-D without the dark spot around the mintmark, in this grade. Speedy
Congrats, Someday I will own one but it will be a similar grade and will be cracked out for my Album. I can't imagine having one spot in my album empty just to have it sitting nearby staring at all of it's brothers and sisters in isolation.
Yep. Same here. My "S" is an AU-53. But Washington quarters are not one of my primary sets so I'm a bit more loose about having matched coins.
Yes, they do, 'cuz adding a mintmark is a lot easier than counterfeiting and more difficult to detect. Nice work, kanga !
As I said in my original post, this coin is replacing the damaged one I have. Here's what the damaged one looks like: Note that the only larger scratches obvious at this scale are the one on the jaw/neck and the vertical one in the hair. This is about what you'd see with the coin in hand. Here's some closer images and you can pick out several other larger scratches. I did these as links rather than imbedded images since they both are close to 200kb (take heed dial-up users).
