Well, I added my first certified coins to my collection. I picked them up on Ebay earlier this week, and I received them in the mail today. 1798 FM 1 Reale & 1799 FM 1 Reale I'm still pondering whether I should leave them slabbed or crack them out and get them into air-tites, to match the rest... So what would you grade them?
With all the couterfeits floating around the world today I would recommend you leave these two slabbed. Sooner or later, like it or not, someday they will be for sale again, either by you or your immediate family and slabbed, graded and authenticated coins are by far easier to sell when it comes to older world coins. Couple of nice additions I might add!
Yeah, you're probably right... It's just that they don't fit with my other coins. I'll probably get used to it. Plus, it's sort of neat to own a certified coin. Thanks!
Leave 'em in the slabs - you'll have more Now then - do you want to know what I'd grade them or what I think NGC graded them ? Two more nice additions Rick - keep up the good work
I'd like to hear both, what you think the NGC gave them and what you think they grade in your eyes... because I disagree with the slabs, to an extent, too. Call it a test of my grading instinct - which needs it!
wow, you were close on the NGC! Actually spot on with the 1799. AU55. The odd thing is they did these one after the other, and they rated the 98 as XF45 and the 99 as AU55. When I look at them, I think the two should be reversed. But I completely agree with your assessment. I don't know how you could look at the 98 and call that XF, then look at the 99 and call that AU. Clearly there is more rub on the later year.
Hey Rick NICE---I would leave them in teh slabs... I agree with you that the 99 has a better looking grade but I think what took it down was eye appeal--the back just doesn't do it for me... Both coins are great looking! Speedy
Rick, I like the NGC grades. From my eye, the 99 should be the higher graded coin. The rub on the 99 may affect its eye appeal but when I look at the overall wear on the details, it looks like the 99 is a higher grade.
