Howdy peeps, I looked in the RedBook and can't find a 1898-D Eagle so I guess it's extremely rare, which would account for the bidding: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310166752249 Now what idiot would bid on that? :goof: And it's even got missing letters in the legend! Ribbit Ps: Whoever ends up buying that, I have a 1925 Half-Eagle to sell them: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320420571399 Ribbit Ribbit Ribbit
Just for anyone's inormation, the was no mint with a D mint mark operating in 1898. Denver didn't have a mint yet, and Dahlonega had been closed for decades.
I reported this to E-bay and to the seller, who sent a cordial and prompt response. I replied back, reminding him there is 0% chance the coin is genuine. Hopefully, this one will get The Big Boot. :hammer:
