    Hey gang,

Been a while since I"ve posted and been active on Coin Talk...hope everyone is well. I purchased a PCGS graded coin on E-bay 9/02 and immediately paid for it. Got home from the Labor Day weekend to find a "case" was opened and the seller would like to negate the transaction. The reason given was akin to "my dog ate my homework"; just not credible. This EXACT coin was sold at Teletrade two weeks prior to my purchase from E-bay. What I paid on E-bay was $150 less than what the EXACT coin sold for at Teletrade two weeks prior. I suspect this is the real reason the seller wishes to negate the transaction. Anybody else in here have any experience or ideas? The seller has refunded my money, but I want the coin, lol. I haven't responded to the seller as I'm still contemplating my next move.

I'm not sure if there is much you can really do. I would file a complaint with eBay and probably leave him negative feedback with an explanation of what happened. I don't think you have the ability to force him to hand over the coin. It's possible that eBay might ban his account for it...but I doubt it.

Can you link the auction, it does sound quite weak. Nobody wants to lose money, but an auction does pose that risk.

Post a link to the auction. I would certainly make sure they got a negative - not much sure what else you can do. Another seller trying to get away with not setting a reserve. Exactly what I mentioned in that thread where Jack was ending his auctions early.

E-mail them and ask to fulfill the auction ending win & send your item , if he dosn't file a complaint with ebay and submit a negative feedback explaining that this seller dose not complete his auction obligations to the winning bidder , the thing is he had plenty of time to end the auction early but didn't.

Sorry to hear of your experience. I have not had this happen before, but when I buy coins, I typically buy them at steals so I am always expecting something like this to happen all the time. Good luck though. I will be rooting for you!

Thanx, I figured that was my only option. I was hoping there may have been something I overlooked. We'll see how far this goes, likely not far. But, I'll due my part in letting others know.

I would also be upset in your position. I would contact the seller, explain to him the situation, and ask him to hold his side if the deal. That is the risk of a no reserve auction. I once sold two VF 35 1924 Canadian cents for 4 dollars... should have set a reserve, or put it on ebay.ca
    either way...
this guys negative just cost him 150$

Sorry to hear about your problem. I've run into similar problems. The two most common are...

    1. "The item was stolen...can't complete the transaction". Ebay almost never pursues action in these cases. I suppose that can happen, but it seems to happen to me only when I get a really good deal...go figure!

    2. The seller does an "online" USPS mailing. The USPS doesn't verify that the item is actually mailed. The seller doesn't mail the item and claims it must have been lost...they promptly refund the money. Again...this only happens when I get a really good deal. :headbang::headbang::headbang:

The best you can do in some of these cases is to report it to Ebay Trust & Safety. If a continuing pattern emerges, they may be willing to take action. That won't help you, but it may help someone else.

I recently had my first bad experience, mine was very low dollar but it still aggrevates me. I won a 1978 mint set for .99 cents and with shipping was right at $5.00. The seller took my money but must have decided not to part with it for that price. I sent several E-mails and got no reply. now I have a case open with paypal to get my money back. Of course I would rather have the coins. This the only bad apple out of my 80+ purchases there.

Back when I sold stuff on fleaBay I had stuff like that happen, selling stuff for a pittance. I always figured it evened out the stuff I sold for egregiously more than I paid for it - or the good deals I got. So instead of being stinky, I congratulated the winner of the bargain for a great find and sent it to them.

That stinks. Taking a loss is part of the game. I would file a comlaint with ebay and hope for the best. if worst comes to worst, leave the neg as a warning for others.

    It Happened to Me Today!

eBay Bid Cancellation Notice - Item

    Dear eBay Community Member,
The bid that you entered for the item (150370973118) has been cancelled. You can view the reason provided for the cancellation by selecting the (bid history) link from the individual item page.
Please be cautious if you are contacted about purchasing this item after the bid has been cancelled and as always avoid paying for your eBay item using instant wire transfer services through Western Union or MoneyGram as these payment methods are unsafe when paying someone you do not know.
    Regards,
    eBay

They canceled the item right before the auction was about to end. So technically, I didn't win the coin, but I was about to......for 99 cents too!!!!

What can I do??? Can I file a complaint with ebay? Will they even care and is it worth my time? Should I send a message to the seller letting them know how crappy that was? And once again, is it worth my time to do it? Thoughts?

That really stinks. The reality is there is probably not much you can do other than file a complaint with e-bay with what you know and maybe give a negative to the seller. But unless you can say for sure why the seller cancelled the sale that negative may not be warranted.

The best thing you can do is mark down the seller's name and never bid on their auctions again. You might also consider letting your ebay friends know about your experience. Once a seller cancels an auction, I absolutely refuse to deal with them again.

I had a seller negate a sale, gave me a refund and ignored me.
I waited until the last day and neg'd him.

    Contagious?

I guess I hopped on this thread because of some stuff I had "WON".

Actually, I was thinking I was going to pay for it. 4 auctions, not amounting to too much (Under $20 total w/shipping, total).

A couple of proof Prez small dollars and a Sac & '78 Kennedy GEM......blah blah.

Well, I get a email from feeBay telling me not to pay.

I'm usually a FAST payer but had bids on other items from the same seller so I was waiting to complete all transactions for combined shipping.

FeeBay said they were no longer listed. So, no harm, no foul, so far.

I was looking forward to the 99 cent "WIN" Kennedy S Gem Proof half! I had a big hole to put that in.

    Maybe they protected me.

I lost nothing but the time to look the stuff up and bid.:goof:

It would have been a nice coin too. Here is there link. I hope you all can see it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150370973118

Just to re-state....I did not win this coin, but was about to when the auction was canceled, so there is no feedback to give. I can either complain to ebay about it (which they will do nothing) or complain to the seller about it (who will either ignore me or try to negotiate with me for a price other than what I would have paid)

I know the purpose of this thread is to complain about eBay problems, but (if you'll indulge me) I had and experience I don't get very often. It was from a seller named GRT4646.

I bought a raw Franklin half, advertised as 1952-P MS63 FBL. It looked pretty nice...definately FBL, but the picture was grainy and I couldn't evaluate the surfaces very well. I normally don't buy raw Franklins on eBay, but I was bored and wanted to buy "something".

    The description was...

That seemed to be a fairly honest description and the S&H was reasonable ($2) so I went for it. I ended up paying $23 plus the S&H. Not a great deal, but not a bad one either.

The next day I get the following message...

...so I sez, "Sure!". I got the coin and it's better than I had hoped. A pleasant eBay story to go with all the negative ones. :thumb:

Or you'll get the "Someone stole it, so I had to end the auction early" song & dance. What can you do but...MoveOn.org :D
