I know a few of you carry a pocket piece around with you, so lets find out what you carry and what do you do with it. Current pocket piece: 1865 Two Cent Piece Will give as tip:
Well i have two pocket pieces on the go, but this is the newer one of the two (as in how long i've owner it)... It's a Charles II Half Guinea, dated between 1672-1684 No i won't be giving it as a tip.
i carry around a 1912 liberty nickel. i wasnt planning on using it as a tip or as change at a store, because it was the only liberty nickel I had, but now that Jody was kind enough to send me another liberty nickel, I might just do that.
I agree with you chevy. Those three gentlemen are truly trying to make a difference in our hobby. They have my respect and gratitude for their efforts. I'd also like to let all the other posters and lurkers on this forum know that you are appreciated as well. BTW chevy, the Liberty Nickel I'm sending you, is a 1910, so you'll have two different dates now.
I have a "collection" of pocket pieces. I carry them around for a while and then swap to a different coin. Right now I have a Canadian large cent. It's an AU but has been cleaned. I also have a Morgan, a Peace, a JFK, an English large cent, an Aussie large cent, two rcc pieces, a gold plated Ike, ... Anything that I happen to like. I carried a Morgan for about 24 years. I gave it to a kid from our Youth Group who was moving to CO. Haven't given away too many. I've used SACs as pocket pieces and have given them away -- they don't age well.
Thank you for the kind words. You once said that I sound more like a passionate collector than a dealer. I believe that was the best compliment I have ever received. I would like to thank all of the participants of this forum. You make this the best forum!
It's true, it can happen! That's why i was just advising my good friend Art not to fall into that trap, cos once they've got you you'll wish you'd never said anything.
Well you know, I have heard many American dealers do the opposite of that. Letting people know that we make a cent not a penny. My favorite is heads and tails.
I don't get wound up about much, but people confusing obverses and reverses really annoy me. It's like when you get them asking for an evaluation... 'I've found a coin, i think it's a dime... it's got a torch and and some other stuff on the front and it's got a guy, i think Roosie on the back' Grrr! i could put the monitor through when people do that. Roosevelt is on the front, front, heads/obverse/front/Side A (Whatever you want to call it), but under no circumstances is he on the reverse/back/Side B/Tails.
Syl and all, Sorry for the cent/penny gaf. I often use the terms interchangeably and have since I was only a little tyke. That was before they had invented actual coins.....;-) Syl, Got my trade package...WOW. It's wonderful. Now you're tempting me in new collection directions. The half-crowns are beauties..The Florins...well they're the best. But the 3d are still my second favorite with 6d being on top. Thanks
another sixpence fan hey? i better watch you! Florins are a close second for me though, some well nice designs there.
I'm currently carrying around a large English PENNY that I got from Sylvester. All those redneck Cops I work with, I'm trying to get any of them interested, so I show them that big beautiful English CENT!
Just in case I have not said so before I would like to very sincerely offer my gratitude to Jody and National dealer for agreeing to become Moderators on this Forum. Their help has been GREATLY appreciated Now as for pocket pieces - I carry a 2002 $50 American Gold Eagle. I used to carry a '99 - but I spent it at a coin show
