Hi all, I'm Marianna. My Father passed away a year ago this past July. I have just now begun looking through his coin collection. I have many to ID, but wanted to know the value, if possible of these two to begin with. I plan on getting a book for future ref, as their are ALOT of ww 2 coins as well. According to my research today the Australian half penny is Perth Mint, 1942. One site said that the K.G should be located above the kangaroo tail, on this coin it is located under the tail? The other coin (as you all kow already ) is 1931 half penny GRA BRITT....not sure on the mint. Thank you for any insight you can share.
Welcome Marianna, Looks like maybe the kangaroo half penny had the KG (designer George Kruger) below the tail while the full penny has it above. You're right about it being minted at Perth. Here is a page you can go to. http://www.triton.vg/halfpennies.html
George Kruger Grey. Mikjo0,the designer of the Aussie kangaroo halfpenny was George Kruger Grey, who designed most of the coinage of the British Empire, including countries such as New Zealand,Canada & South Africa. The rarest date for the Aussie kangaroo 1/2d. is the 1939 one. Aidan.
