Hey gang! This pair of coins walked in this morning. Nice original pieces. The 1802/1 I'm having trouble identifying it's either an B-1 or an B-3. The 1799 appears to be an B-10 Enjoy! 1799
Beautiful dollars....I don't own a Bolender reference and Breen's encylcopedia isn't detailed enough to offer an opinion, still really nice coins. Thanks for posting them.
That kind of coin just walks in your door? Very nice pair of coins Dutchman, specially the 1802/1. Seems to be a nice, original coin. 1802's (and 1801's) appear to be scarcer than the 1798's and 1799's from what I have seen, well reflecting the low mintage for those dates. Nice pair of coins!
Don't have a Bolender reference? Try this on-line attribution reference http://www.earlydollars.org/wizardhome.htm
From time to time, tho it is pretty rare to see one in a collection. I have seen 4 come through the door this year including these 2.
Sweet! How the heck didn't I have that site bookmarked!?!? the 1802/1 is definitely a B3. and the 1799 appears now to be a B6. Using a first edition Bolander book without the pictures is a BEAR without die markers!!! Thanks Conder!!!
While I agree with your 1802/1 being a B3, I don't agree with your 1799 attribution. My Reiver book marks the reverse as a 4-5-3-5, and since the U is perfect on the reverse, it's either B-10 or B-17. Given the berry size, I'd go B-17 die state a (pre-crack). John
I agree the 1799 is a B17. The upper two berries are buried in the leaves. Plus die state b shows a crack through the U in United just like I see on this one. So I think it is a B-17. My opinion only.
Thanks for all the comments guys. I have decided to keep the 1799 raw and have the 1802/1 graded. I'll post the results when I get it back.
Very nice coins. Original? I'm not so sure.... Market acceptable? I'd wager so... Better than most? Absolutely!
