Presidential Oath Dollars?? Your advice

Very expensive . I did not buy them there .I just saw them in an ad for $79 . I paid $19.99 a piece . alittle high but I like them

One thing not mentioned in the long thread is that ANYONE can buy one or photograph one, and MAKE MORE. Yes, that's right, if you like them they'll make more. While the Denver Mint might have originally had them made to sell in store, anyone with a supply of these coins can have more made. The current slabs might be limited, but have only novelty value in my mind by themselves.

The Denver Mint is reported up the thread to have sold them for $8.00. That means, the production cost is likely $4.00 or less. So if any collector wants to buy something that costs $4 for $80, I say more power to them. To me, what that collector is buying is a trip to the cleaners. If a person enjoys that, again, more power to them. This forum exists in part, to educate collectors, not to have them taken. Those that know market prices tend to enjoy the hobby more than those that buy stuff from the TV coin shows.

Alt IDs and sock puppets are a big problem on some other coin forums. Readers, do not get taken in by fast talking promoters on the Internet. Figure out what fair market value is, both the retail and wholesale value, before writing a big check. A complete set at $80 each is 40 x 80 = $3200. Yikes. That buyer would be fortunate to get $5 each for the set, or a $3000 loss, if sold to a dealer. Really.

 

Thanks for the info .It is well received . I paid $19.99 at the Denver mint for them in the mohogany box but the cost in the end is still quite expensive for all of them. I still like them and I did not buy the to resell. It must have cost some thing for ANACS to grade and seal these things .

 

Just so that everybody knows, a little recap.

These Presidential Oath Dollars are NOT a product of the US Mint but are in fact a product of ARAMARK which currently has the contract for the Gift shops at the Denver and Philadelphia mint. ARAMARK is an outside vendor and has absolutely no affilitation with the US Mint other than to service the gift shop. Thy have exactly the same standing with the US Mint as the coin vendors outside the US Mint at Denver or ANY of the local coin dealers through out the country.

The Presidential Oath Dollars consist of an actual Presidential Dollar coin which was pressed into an aluminum collar which has partial text of the Presidential Oath. The Presidential Dollar coin WILL have received damage to it during the pressing operation AND, since the date and mintmark are on the RIM of the dollar coins, there is absolutely no way to tell which mint the coins came from.

These coins may have collectible value to the few that buy into the hype surrounding the "limited" availability of these coins but they have little if any numismatic value. I would classify them with the famous "bottle cap" collections which must surely exist somewhere and in very limited quantities.

 

Apparently you donot own any . I purchased these from the DenverMint .On the back of the ANACs case it says,and I quote The Presidential Oath encasement dollar is a Philadelphia US Mint offering of 1000 coins total. My others say the same thing except some say Denver . If you don't like them fine .Don't (mess) with them. But leave us alone who do like them . All that was said is these have "no numismatic value" which is true (so, no value in the typical coin collector sense). I'm sure they are quite interesting pieces and are fun to collect. If you like them then collect them...don't worry if others don't collect them. I don't think anyone here was trying to insult your hobby...but was just stating that these are not produced by the US mint and thus to many aren't considered coins. That's all.

 

Without trying too be to abrupt, your ignorance is showing through. Obviously the dollar coin is a US Mint product but the addition of the aluminum casing which is what makes it an "Oath Dollar" is not!

Insisting that the oath dollars are a Product of the US Mint is simply a blatant falsehood regardless of what ANACS states on their slab.

Collectible? Perhaps since the dates on the coins are different. A product of the US Mint? Only the cent but not the bottle.

Collect what you want but stop insisting that the so called "Oath Dollars" are a product of he US Mint since they are not. They are a product of ARAMARK which services the "Quick Shop" at the US Mint since the US Mint officially closed there stores around 1994 and contracted the service out to a third party vendor which can sell pretty much anything they want including shredded paper money, coffee cups, star notes and Mint Sets (which BTW, any coin dealer can sell).

Folks that have spent $80 will get a very rude awakening to this farce when they try to sell these treasures to a coin dealer.

Being from Oregon, I think this is pretty cool. If I could get that cheap somewhere I would probably pick it up.
