It really, truely warms my heart to know there are people like this in business. Too many times you hear about the bad experiences, and bad business people. I'd like to think my coin dealer would do the same!!!:smile
Unfortunatly , a lot of shops treat me and others like that. You want buy ,you want deal ,get out, I am not here to answer your stupid questions ,buy a book. Thats a favorite. Why. If I owed a store ,customer are money coming in the door. Treat them well and they will spend . Act like you have have a large trust fund and waiting on you is a chore then close the doors
Actually, I asked the guy a simple question about these coins and said he didn't know...and then proceeded to tell me what he thought (which was wrong). So, I asked if he had a reference book I could make a quick check in before I bought one...and he wasn't very happy to accommodate me, although he did.
Interesting thread. Camaro, I don't quite understand your repeated remark that the store has bad hours - Tues-Fri 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. What's so inconvenient about that? You say you have classes everyday and labs on the weekend. So what ARE convenient hours for you. LOL Sorry, I just find it an interesting remark. About the 15 year old selling silver. I wouldn't buy it either. All kinds of potential problems. And yes, the coin dealer can probably legally "take" your money but not buy silver necklaces from you. Sometimes life sucks.
As for the hours, I have never visited a coin dealer who wasn't open at least one weekend day. It's true that I do spend a good portion of my weekends at school, but I can find a free hour here or there and I could go in if they were open on a few hours on Saturday (or Sunday for that matter). It just seems like the "normal" work week is 8-5 weekdays for most people...so those hours would be restrictive to a large number of potential customers. That is also roughly when I have class. I typically have class 8-5 weekdays plus a lot of lab work to do on top of that. I had the same thought as you about the 15 year old selling silver. I wonder what the legal ramifications of such a thing is...basically the dealer would be entering into a legal contract with a minor if he bought from him. It feels like that could be an opportunity to get into trouble for the dealer. I personally wouldn't buy valuables from a minor either no matter who's name was imprinted on them.
