    Nice one Zohar. You'll soon have a whole set of them. I think the Swiss shooters have some of the nicest designs.

    Why are they called "Shooters" ?

    They were minted for the shooting events that were held at many different Swiss Cantons. They were never given legal tender status, they were technically medallic issues. But the 1855 Solothurn issuse was a legal 5 Franc coin. Also the 1842 GRAUBUNDEN and the 1847 GLARUS coins are included as shooting Thalers.
