HI all, was thinking on where you store your coins when not looking at them?. Other day was looking at my coins and it's getting to a point where they are overflowing lol.So I went out and got a small safe. Was keeping them before in a wood box but was thinking this not to smart as anyone can take them.So where do you keep your coins when you are done looking at them ect? Carl:eating:
I keep mine in a safe. If you bought a small safe, you might be just as well off with the wooden box, as someone can haul off smaller safes with little effort. I'd reccomend a weighted stand alone. You can buy them cheap enough these days. Guy~
I keep mine in 2 different safes. Bullion in one, and coins in the other. During the day some are in my store. You want the address and combinations?
Be careful with the wood boxes. Depending on the type of wood, as well as the finishers and glues involved, gases can be given off which can discolor/tone/tarnish your coins. Small safes are meant to deter only casual thieves. Anyone with experience can open a small safe quickly, or just cart it off to be opened at their leisure. Big safes aren't much better. Safe deposit boxes are somewhat more secure, but some people worry about the whims of the banks/government. The best security is silence -- nobody can take what is not known to exist.
I keep the coins that are more expensive in our safe deposit box. To each their own. But I sure would like to have one of those coin cabinets, even if the only things I put into it were circulated xincolns
Mine are behind a angry biting dog that does not bark, a old ten gauge double barrel shotgun, multiple other arms, a high grade security system, on a few shelves that take up half of a large gun safe. :thumb:
Pretty much all the expensive stuff goes to the Safe Deposit Box at the Bank and the less expensive fun album stuff goes on the bookshelf. Watch out with the little safe's they are horrible for long term storage as the fire material in them have moisture which can harm the coins in the safe.
Question on storing coins, for people who store at bank what is cost to store at Safe Deposit Box at bank? 10 a month 20?
Coin storage should be secret. At my bank, a 5" x 10" x 24 depth box costs about $100 per year. You can fit 3-ring binders and storage boxes conveniently in this size box.
It completely depends on the size of the box. The bank I worked at had a variety of sizes ranging from about $20 to $125 per year. I don't remember the dimensions though.
If I remember right my bank (Bank of America) charges $40 per year for the basic box or free with certain accounts. Holds ~75 slabs, not tall enough to store a slab box so they have to be laid flat. The next box size up holds quite a few PCGS boxes for ~$60 per year.
Depends The Indian Heads get returned to where Granny kept them; by the outhouse buried in the copperhead pit. My new stuff shares space in my gun safe.
The correct answer to this question, no matter where you actually keep them is "In the safe deposit box." Said loudly and firmly.
Agreed, I don't mind getting robbed and would be happy to open my safe that only has photos and a few documents.
