Anyone want to grade a Morgan to close out the holiday weekend?

My grandmother just recently discovered that I collect coins (I don't necessarily share this with people), and she said that she had some old coins from her mother. She gave them to me and said it was a gift from her to me.

I took a look and most of it was well worn silver pieces from the 1940s and 50s, but then there were 8 Morgans. Most were common pieces in probably VF condition, but then I ran across this piece. I am relatviely new to grading (only been collecting a few years), but this looked pretty good (besides the fingerprint and general grime). Any assistance on what this grade might be?

The best part is that I am assembling a basic date/mintmark Morgan set (I have 55 pieces so far) in MS+ condition, and I do not have a 1900-S yet. I think it might run at AU58 or so.

I appreciate the help; the more I discover about this wonderful hobby, the more a realize I do not know.

Working on it; I appreciate the help. This is the first time I have uploaded a photo. Looks like I will have to use photbucket.

Use some place like photobucket. It allows you to keep albums, full size pictures, etc. The color is certainly interesting.

I am sure this has been asked a thousand times; but how do I link the photobucket pics to this thread? I have uploaded to the photbucket website, but the link is too large.

I have checked the coin against the other MS-65 and -63 I have; it appears to have a slight amount of wear, namely around the hair above the ear and the cotton leaves and bolls, and the legs of the eagle on the reverse. But the field look clear, and the lettering is amazing. The mint mark is amazingly crisp. The cynic in me says it almost looks "too good", except I can't imagine the coin's origin being suspect.

Either way, it was a great unexpected gift that will remain in the family.

Underneath each uploaded picture is a place to check a box next to the name. After picking the pictures you want, scroll down to the generate html button. Hit the button and a screen appears with the html code. So if you want image clickable thumbnails cut and paste that code into a thread hear. If you want full size picture pick the IMG for image boards code - again cut and paste into a thread here.

I know it is slightly distorted now, but it certainly looks MS to me.

I am working on it; can't say if I will nail this down before the night's through, but thanks to those who have commented so far.

I will get this posted in a format that allows for a closer inspection.

It looks nice mid MS grade or so. We do need bigger photos to be sure. Not attractive toning, but interesting IMO. I don't see any wear, but can't tell.

I don't see any wear either...but bigger photos are a must. Who knows what we are missing with these tiny things.

Can anyone explain the photobucket concept to me? I have downloaded the photos there, but when I cut and paste the url on the manage attachments tab it comes back invalid or too large a file. Any other way?

I will not be able to resize the pics for a day or two, but I can work with what I have in the interim.

Cut (or copy) and paste it (from the "direct link" bar under the photobucket image)to the insert image icon above the reply box. Click the little icon with the mountain and a url box will pop up.

I would suspect that under that toning it's either a high end AU or a lower end mint state.

This is brutal; the image on photobucket is clear as day, but I can't figure out how to attach it is an acceptable manner for the forum. I keep getting invalid file name when I cut and paste.

I will try this again when I get back to my desk and restart the thread.

Thansk to all who have offer assistance, sorry I am so computer illiterate...

Morgan - do you know how to resize photos ? If you do, then just resize your pic to 250kb or less and THEN upload it to the forum.

Or - read this thread How To Post (upload) Pics

Thanks for the link GDJMSP; I ran across that post a few weeks back and forgot to tag it for future reference. Once I get back to my personal laptop (which will be later tomorrow evening), I will resize and post the pics.

I have lurked around the forum for over a year, but mostly reading other's posts and not actively engaging. It takes time and effort to respond and assist with other who participate, and again, thanks for those who have offered help and persisted despite my pains in resizing the pics. Once I get this nailed down, I think it will be interesting to get commentary.

There is an option with photobucket at the uploaded where it will resize the photo for you. Click where it says "More Options" below the upload option (circled in red):

Then, this screen will pop up and will give you the auto resize options. As you can see, I have mine set to 1024x768. Once you select that I think it will solve your problems and you can try and upload the pictures again as photobucket will automatically resize them.

Now that you have the image uploaded to your photobucket...click on the image and you should see your image with a number of links like this:

In the box to the left, you should see where it says "Share This Image" and you will see 4 sets of codes. The bottom code is "IMG Code." Simply copy that code into your post. It should look similar to this:
