I'm sure some of you have heard the story of a lost Denver mint shipment of "Seated Liberty" dimes. I'm inquiring if anyone here may have information on the value of these dimes. Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

**This picture is NOT the year of the dime of question. Only shown for similarity purposes.

I think there is some mixup in your story. The Denver mint never made seated Liberty dimes, in fact it didn't open until several years after seated dime production ended. I believe there was some story about Barber dimes, supposed to explain the scarcity of a certain date but I don't remember the details.

    Thank you!

That is very helpful. Those were the only details I had been given about the missing shipment and I haven't been able to find anything further on it. I've requested any documentation on the event from the Mint and the archives but, I haven't heard anything yet. I'm trying to specify the exact year of coin that was lost and, in addition, if there is any validity to whether or not some of that shipment has actually been recovered. Thank you for your help! If you remember anything else, don't hesitate to share!

    Sincerely,
    Cory

    More light on the subject....

After your fantastic reveal of a GIANT hole in the story I had previously heard, I finally found this:

    1907-D

In spite of a mintage in excess of 4 million pieces, this issue is very difficult to locate in AU and Mint State grade. According to one account, a wagon load of 1907 dimes (and quarters) were lost in Black Canyon and never recovered.

    Thanks again for your help!
