That's a good start. As for cherrypicking, what exactly do you want to cherrypick ? Varieties & errors and or just nice coins ? Your answer determines the recommendations.

    WELCOME TO THE FORUM.
Don't go nutty purchasing a pile of books just yet. As with any hobby, many people jump into something and become overwhealmed, loose interest, find they now have a lot of something on a shelf that just collects dust.
To start with just get the Red Book. Look through it for what interests you. You can go to the Whitman Publishing web site for many, many other books but as I said, get familar with one thing at a time. You could also go to the USMints web site to see all the things they are selling. You may want to check to see if there are any coin stores in your area and visit one with the intension of LOOKING for now.
Get to really know what you like in the way of coins before you run around buying all kinds of items that may create a loss of interest.

Welcome to the forum, as others have asked, what do you like to collect?
I would suggest pcking up a redbook. Assuming you already have an interest in American coins and from there you can find all the American coinage.
Once you have figured out what type tickles your fancy you can move onto more specific books for your type of coin.

There are tons of books to choose from for different types of coins.
Let us know what you collect and we'll send you the right way.
