I won this auction on Ebay yesterday and I wanted opinions on what to do. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250491033955&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I came in with 30 seconds to go and read the description and thought I was bidding on a 1995 silver proof set and a 1996 silver proof set. It was only after it closed that I discovered that the 1995 was a clad roof set. What I ended paying for them was a little more than what they've been going for lately and I could live with it,but here's the rub. The seller is a fairly new Ebayer and what I wanted opinions on was whether you folks think he was trying to be deceptive or just a rookie seller that needs to be more accurate in his item descriptions. If you thought he was trying to pull a fast one what would you do?
The description is deceptive. I suspect the seller didn't know the difference. But you've got the images which makes it perfectly clear what you will receive. eBay would probably side with you if you filed a SNAD, but mostly because they blindly side with the buyer 95% of the time.
The description is deceptive but the picture does tell the right story. In my opinion, you got a pretty good deal on 95 clad and 96 silver proof sets.
Considering its Ebay where description really is everything id probably query it as it does indicate both sets are Silver. One could perhaps argue to a point the picture tells a story if you happen to be familiar with Mint sets. Bottem line is the description is a mile out,id personally be looking to query it and come out the other end with free shipping at the very least.
Personally I think it was inadvertently deceptive. Some ppl don't know that in some yrs like in 1998 they had two sets. They minted a premier set and then a regular set. Also, some ppl may think that you got a good deal but I think you just have to chalk it up as a lesson well learned. What you paid is basically street prices and that's why I say, just accept as a lesson well learned. Someone else mentioned that the pic says it all but even so, the description has to be right on target. just my 2 cents
I think you still got a good deal - I remember that my dad picked up a 95 proof set back when they were still high. Who knows, maybe they will head back up! Speedy
The seller is new and so far has 100% feedback. He/she needs to be given the benefit of the doubt. If you're unhappy you could contact the seller and ask to be released from the sale. You might offer to pay the listing and valuation fees. Everyone comes out healthy.
why do you only come in here after you have won the item, and than want someone to tell you what they think you should do? kinda backwards I think. There is no one in this forum who is going to be able to answer your question with any degree of certainty one way or another. You won what was pictured, a 1995 mint proof set (clad) and a 1996 Mint Silver Proof Set
It is definitely a poor description, something pretty common in these post literate times, wether it was deceptive is something that one would have to ask the seller, since only he knows if he wrote the description with an intent to decieve, or wether he just does not understand that the way the heading was worded lends itself to the interpretation that you are buying two silver sets.
Buyers need to take some responsibility. When you look at the picture, it's clear that the title is "1995" and "1996 Silver", not "1995 and 1996" Silver.
That auction seems a bit deceptive to me..It seems to be selling silver proof sets. There is no mention at all of clad proof set.....Bad way to start off in my opinion. I would contact him in regards maybe you can settle on a better price. He seems to be selling quite a few coins and should have some knowledge of what he is doing.
Thanks everyone for your input. Yes I do accept responsibility for clicking the bid button,I should have known the green one was a clad set. My main concern was not letting another shady seller get a start on ebay(there's enough already). However, I now believe it was a new seller that needs to be more accurate in his descriptions and I will send him a message about that. As I stated in the OP it wasn't that bad a deal and I'm not looking for a partial refund or a better deal. Although I don't have any interest in clad proofs I'll keep them.My youngest daughter's birth years is 1995 so thats a good enough reason for me.
