    2009 Uncirculated Mint Set

The release date for the 2009 Mint Set has just been posted as October 1, 2009. The preliminary price for the set is $27.95, an increase of $5 from the prior year. This set contains a total of 36 uncirculated (satin finish) coins from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. A notable highlight will be the 2009-P and 2009-D Lincoln Cents for each of the four designs. These coins will be struck in a special composition of 95% copper.

The Mint Set has typically been released much earlier in the year (last year's release was July 30, 2008). This year, the US Mint delayed the release to resolve "unique tarnish issues" for the 95% copper Lincoln Cents.

I've seen a lot of threads addressing this for some time already.

Here's some info I put together a short time ago on the 95% copper 2009 Lincoln cents.

I always assumed the mint sets would have 95% copper cents since the original press release was that there would be 95% copper cents in sets issued for collectors or something like that. I assumed that meant the proof sets and the mint sets.

Still think it's very odd they had to figure out tarnish issues on the coins!!!! Didn't they make 95% copper cents for well over 100 years???? Aren't there any folks at the Mint who were working there back before 1982 that could have shown them the way???? Funny stuff.

Yup..Big time. Late release of the 2009 mint uncirculated set which means that mintage will probably not be that high and also the only way to get the business strike 95 percent copper Lincolns. I think the demand will be very high.

I seem to recall you were hoping to order 100 of the 4 pc Proof cents too, then a week or so before they went on sale the Mint posted limits on them... seems they have limits on everything these days, at least at the initial date of release.

Exactly. Another over kill by the Mint. This is getting like the postage stamps. I'm only wondering when the Mint will offer coins with our own photos on them.

Some of the so called "SATINS" have been really hard to distinguish, for my old tired eyes! Even with a 10X Loupe!! They will go nuts on the bay though, amazing!!
