People buying fakes from China and also selling on Ebay

Hey, if you guys need a tip on who to avoid on ebay, check out who's actually buying all these fakes from Chinese sellers. Look at the feedback. I've found more than one person buying up many coins from China sellers and then selling high dollar coins on the sell side with bad pics.

Again, these coins come from China with NO copy or replica stamps on them so they will pass as the real thing very easily to the uneducated. Most are NOT key dates but are rather common stuff in all denominations.

All you have to do is view the Chinese sellers feedback, then see who's buying up all this crap. Then, look at their buying feedback and selling feedback. Why would anyone buy an AU, loose 1877 Indian Head cent with a blurry picture for $700 from a person who's been buying coins from China in mass?

I haven't investigated any further but some of these should be reported. Always check your seller's feedback.

This problem will only get worse as time goes on.

BTW, I was not trying to waste my time looking at Chinese junk, but was just doing a search for a very common, basic nickel and was forced to sift through the list of Chinese replicas of it to look at (hopefully) real ones. Pretty sad. No better way to artificially inflate availability and crash prices than to have a bunch of dopes introduce millions of fakes into the U.S. and have them selling as real.

As if China hasn't done enough damage to our economy and the earth in general.

What are the chances this guy is legit??

On July 26th, here is joseph1985 buying an 1877 Indian head cent for 0.10 from China:

...and here he is buying a 1877 IHC copy on June 11th from Beverly Hills, CA for $15.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400055030845

And finally, here he is on July 11th, 2009 selling a (real?) 1877 IHC for $710 to a happy customer and getting positive feedback. "Was his dead brother's and he hates to part with it" What an excuse.:

Busted. I'll report this one and contact the buyer. It's my turn I guess.

This is pathetic that Ebay not only allows this on coins but on other collectables as well. I think the greed factor trumps everything else.

Great info Vess and Ebay needs to get on the stick about this!! Unfortunately for us coin collectors (the hobby) is not one of the biggest money makers for Ebay so they don't seem to care.

One of these days someone like maybe an Ebay attorney will read some of this stuff on here and pontificate the bigger picture to the Ebay officials and then maybe something will be done. Hopefully!!! :high5:

This crapus interruptus is not only wrong but it's against the law and the ebay sellers should know that they could and shoud be prosecuted!! Not only prosecuted, but convicted and sentenced to law prescribed. Long time, mon, yeh mon long time!!! :D

Another thing that these idiot sellers need to know is that all sales transactions are on computer, that means easy access for prosecutors. Welcome to the real world idiot sellers who lurk on this forum, if there are any?

    Update

The buyer contacted me today and said that he realized it was a fake and reported him. He did get his money back. He encouraged me to report him as well.

But yet this seller is still selling on ebay, unpunished.

If you tried selling a gun 'part', you would be banned. If you actually break the law and commit fraud, they look the other way as long as you're selling real stuff 'most of the time' and the majority of people you're selling to are happy. Then you're an ok seller and are welcomed.
    Pathetic.

Imagine if all the fakes, counterfeits, forgeries, copies, etc were eliminated from ebay. Then eliminate all the silly, useless, broken stuff. Sure would be a lonely web site.

In the last two years or so, ebay has really lost a lot of creadability as a reputable marketplace for coins as well as many other items. They should eb ashamed of their freeway for counterfeits to enter this country, unpoliced. Greed has taken over morals, and that new business plan is here to stay!

I dont do anything on ebay anymore..I went on my own when they raised the fee's--best thing I ever did!!!. I think that they should ban coins just like they do guns. Ebay, is turning into a fraud.

I agree with you 100%. All these counterfeits are affecting the maximum bids. People always have that risk factor in their minds on higher dollar coins. Is it a counterfeit, or not? I'm sure you've noticed this trend.

I really admire the detective work you have done.

Although I'm not a coin collector (I do admire the history behind coins, however), I get the sense that many collectors don't have the proper amount of caution when buying coins and sometimes overestimate their own abilities to detect fraud.

Many collectors are impressed by titles and memberships.

Let me speak about something I do know a little , which unfortunately is too similar to coin collecting. That something is Poker.

Most Poker players are good, honest people. And there are some examples of great play, great sportsmanship, excellent teaching, and ethical behavior--Howard Lederer, for example.

Unfortunately, there are some egregious scum-bags in Poker, too. One famous example is Russ Hamilton, previous World Series Of Poker (WSOP) Champion. One would think that a previous WSOP champion would want to maintain his reputation and standing in the Poker community. Unfortunately, he is alleged to have stolen millions from online Poker players in a cheating scam.

Any new Poker player is aware of the possibility (and likelihood) of running into a liar (which is to be expected and even admired if done within the rules of the game) and a cheat (which is always to be condemned). Many new (and even more experienced) coin collectors don't have that same expectations.

That's why I admire the great effort shown by many on this website to exposure these criminals and make numismatics a respected hobby.

I salute you and the others who work so hard in maintaining a high level of integrity in the field. :thumb:

eBay condones it also .Monet grubbing ba%$#@$%#$s. They know and do not care . eBay has fallen from grace in my opinion. What was it Karl Marx said ,Capitolism is great except for the greedy people at the top.

jinghuashei. This is the fellow in Hong Kong that maybe makes but definitely sells fake coins on eBay . He has sold over 10,000 coins this year alone. I bought fake Trade Dollaars from him 15 years ago at a reasonal price . Not looking for a deal but I still got slammed . Choke him? Most certainly. The real problem is who is buying these fakes and selling themas real. We have a bad problem with that in SW Virginia

Susan Headley interviewed Chinese seller "jinghuashei" in the Feb. 2 issue of Coin World, an article entitled "Chinese fakes deceive some FUN dealers". He's been suspended from selling on eBay on more than one occasion, but always manages to return with even more "replicas". By the way, he is now based in Peking.
Chinese power sellers carry alot more weight with eBay than you think, and appear to have some type of immunity (diplomatic or othewise)...
