Has anyone else found this ink stamp on $1 FRN's.I hope it doesn't get popular. Maybe Martha heard something & is keeping tabs on George ! LOL
I have seen a few different stamps in the past few years, and it seems to be getting more popular. I see them at least once a week at my partime job.
I've seen a couple before. It's actually pretty cool when you enter it in on the site, and see all the places it's been.
It is somewhat popular as WG has been around since the late 90s and there are numerous WG stamp varieties in use. Some Notes I have found have as many as three or four different type stamps on each Note. It's really too much. I've followed WG for many years and logged about $1k worth of my own notes, but I do not stamp them nor write on the notes. I just enter the serial numbers and send them back out.
I've seen them before. I don't have the same hate for them as others here do...but it does bother me to occasionally see a collectible note stamped. But, for normal "run of the mill" notes...the stamp doesn't bug me.
It's fun to check the notes. There's a fellow in our local club who collects the stamped notes. He has something like 100 different stamps and a huge number that have handwritten info on them.
Does he strickly collect them from circulation finds or is he looking to buy some? Just curious what type of, if any, specialty collectors WG may have spawned... I've been holding a few notes for such future potential.
Ditto - on a common note I don't see the harm especially if it helps to draw them into collecting and learning! I frequent the site and have made some great contacts.
i say i have seen about 25-30 different WG stamps in my years working at the bank. i never really liked it from when i first saw it years ago. if it is a common note then its not to big of a deal but i have seen a few choice notes and stars that had stamps on them. i also see a lot of embossed stamps that are actually in the paper itself leaving no ink. those are pretty cool
I haven't seen the embossed stamps...but that's neat. I would like to have one of those. I'll have to keep an eye out. As far as star notes...I don't care if those are stamped either. Just because it's a star note doesn't mean it's a sacred note. The vast majority of circulated stars are worth nothing over face. It does hurt to see a nice CHCU star or a desirable star note with a stamp (don't get me wrong) but any 'ole star note...oh well.
Yes I had a bill like that in 2007 when I got married and I gave it to the pastor who performed our service in Hawaii. I asked him to place it on "where's George" website. Sure enough it's on there, one of our ceremony pics has the $1 bill in it as well. I thought it was a bit funny so I ran with it so to speak. A unique way to show proof of marriage without a marriage certificate.
I know what they are but I have never seen a WG embossed stamp. That's why I thought it was cool...all the one's I have seen have either been hand written or rubber stamped with ink.
I had a couple of thise a long time ago, many had different satmps. One had an original Wheres George stamp.
