Well, another Cheerios Sac dollar has shown up on eBay from a lady in New York state. How far will it go........ Cheerios Sac Dollar
I don't know how they can say its the rare one when you have to see the back to know for sure and there doesn't seem to be a way to look at the back without opening the packing...if I had one I would get it graded...I think it would bring more $$$. Speedy
I guess you do have to trust all the supporting documentation if buying one of these, but give that the story is freely and full coroberated by the US Mint....which is rare, I'd be comfortable with purchasing the unopened package. Now, whether or not I'd be comfortable with paying that much for a modern $1 coin...that's a different matter entirely
No need to look at the reverse, ALL the cheerios Sac's were minted with the same special die. What I find interesting is the the first one posted on eBay was in Lakeview NY, about 15 miles south of Buffalo. This one is in Niagara Falls about 15 miles North of Buffalo. Cheerios are packaged in Buffalo.
Just how hard do you think it would be to make up your own package like that ? Let's see - I'd need a home computer & printer - some paper, a piece of pliofilm and a bit of glue. Oh yeah - I'd need 2000 Sacky and cent. I wouldn't touch it with Roy's 20 ft. pole - let alone my 10 footer
I think part of this lady's problem is that she has no idea what happened at the end of Luckybox's first auction after it ended. She only saw the auction end with a reserve not met and a highest bid of $3950 but doesn't realize that he actually sold the coin for $2500. So, she may have a reserve (which hasn't been met yet) that is way out of line with what this coin can sell at. Luckybox, have you contacted this lady? She may have the same thing happen to her that happened to you, bidders testing the waters just to find the reserve with no intention of actually buying the coin.
Well, it looks like some of the potential purchasers also didn't know how much the other Sac sold for. The reserve of $3,500 has been met.
I guess these coins are going up $1000 a month ! LuckyBox only got $2500 for his. Coin World had a story on LuckyBox's auction, and the writer didn't do much more than chronicle the posts on the CU website. The irony is that the publicity from that story might be driving the interest on this auction.
under 4 hours to go and the high bidder has a FB rating of 6. His prior purchases include 7 Wisconsin "extra leaf" quarters and a Cheerios Penny. He paid anywhere from $70-$150 apiece for his Wisconsin errors. An interesting collector to say the least, but his history was no indication that he was willing to spend such a sum to win this coin!
IT SOLD...$5,901.00---too bad the last guy let his go at $2,500...not that I think its worth either number but I think he will now agree with what we told him...he could have gotten much more. Speedy
Yeah, that was my point, but I was uh... being nice. I'm glad to see that you were able to read between the lines to see what I was saying.
Well, I thought this would be the case. The last one sold for an outrageous amount and now the next two auctions have started off with a bang. Cheerios Auction 1 Cheerios Auction 2 It was bound to happen once the news of the first ones got out. Where's the limit now?
I think it will be about where the last one ended (5500-6000) and over the next few months the prices will begin to decline. Eventually they will stabilize somewhere a ways south of where they currently are.
