Hi, I am totally new to this as of tonite. But, I purchased this tiny little coin yesterday. It is so small I can hardly believe it is real. It is 3/8 inch across and I was wondering why it has a hole it and why there are no markings on it as to date etc. Since you are from the UK I was hoping you might know something about the coin. I would greatly appreciate any information you might be able to give me. Thank You
Welcome Jenlala, Here is a link to your coin http://www.24carat.co.uk/halfpencestory.html It's a silver halfpence of James I. Roses, Thistles & Plumes "The portcullis design was continued for the first coinage of James I, but was replaced by a rose on the obverse, and a thistle on the reverse." I guess it was worn as a necklace at one time, hence the hole
