Since being on fixed income my life has went upside down. Thursday morning is check day but wife had to have a 15.00 prescription tonight. I think she has phnemonia but to stubborn to go to hospital. been married to her for 31 years so can't throw away now. Needed 20.00 so I took a common 1921 morgon i bought for 12.00 and sold it for 20.00 to get medicine. My friend is having a field day with my misfortune but hope he gives me a chance to get my coin back on thursday morning when soc, sec, checkcomes!!!
out of the bads things that happen to me, i try and find the good things that come out of them. hope things get better too.
Actually, you did pretty well. If you had sold that coin to a dealer, you would have been lucky to get even $12. You made an $8 profit on the most common of Morgans. Plus, if he's a true friend, he will sell the coin back to you for the same price as what he paid. Being on a fixed income is not something I'm looking foward to... and it's getting very close. Hope all is well with your wife!
"In sickness and in Health" she is way may important than a coin!! It will come back to you 10 fold!! RickieB
It's a good thing that your coin collection , or part of it can help you out in difficult times. It may not be what you had valued it at, but it did help pay for her medicine. Sorry to hear that, but I can relate to a situation just like that personally. Hope she gets better.
Spouses are more valuable than coins. I hope she is better soon and I hope your finances rebound such that you don't have to part with your coins either....
I tell people often that It's much better to have these things in a time of need to sell them then to not have them at all.
I would rather have health than all the coins in the world. But, that is just me. and, think about it: how many millions of 1921 Morgans are out there?
The wife is more important than a 1921 Morgan. I'm somewhat concerned about the friendship. A friend could have lent the $20 for a day or 2. Bruce
With the lack of raises this last few years and the increasing cost of kids activities I feel I am on a fixed income of late as well. It's really tough when each check barely covers the bills.
Like was mentioned before, at least you have a hobby that retains some value and were able to convert coins to useful money when in need. If you were a bottle cap collector you would have been sol. Guy~
I will give you a little clue, pneumonia is nothing to fool with. I will grant you, I had a bit more than just pneumonia, but that is the biggest reason I am now on oxygen or have the stamina of a slug. Believe me, pneumonia is absolutely serious business!
you guys are the best. when i am feeling down i read a few of your replys and it gives me new hope. I did a little research and founf that $20.00 for an ave. morgan that i paid less for was a good profit. not that is what i was looking for!! though I have only been here for a few short months you people have become family to me and I turn to you every evening to get me through the long nighgts! god bless!!:kewl:
been there myself that is why i am on oxygen for the rest of my short life. That is why i get so scarewd when wife gets sick. but enough about that lets talk coins. Someone yesterday said they crack all of thier proof coins out and put them in albums. Do they lose value once you lose the gov. packaging?:eating:
Pneumonia is more of a killer than before, especially that caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, of which there are so many varieties, your immune system may not have time to react successfully. If you haven't yet, and especially if you are over 60, get your strept. pneumo. vaccination. It doesn't cover all varieties, but many of the more serious ones. Jim
