I have confirmed thus far that the coin I have is of Ferdinand and Isabella. It bears the arms of Castille & Leon, the throne of Spain, one one side and the reverse has the arms/arrows detail. Basically it is the coin seen in this thread:

However, my coin is goldish in color and I started my search by looking specifically for gold coins. I found this instead, and have seen no gold varieties of it. Would this imply that my coin is counterfeit? Thanks for any input!

Well that depends. The color could easily be due to toning - or it could be a fake as you suggested. I know of no coins struck in gold with the design of the coin in the other thread.

I would suggest that you weigh the coin, and measure it's diameter. This could help in indentifying it.

Also - you may wish to check this web site - Click Here

When you get to the site, scroll down the cloumn on the left until you see - Kings Cato'licos. Then click on the links provided under that heading to see coins of many similar designs as the coin in the other thread you mentioned. This may help you to identify your coin.

My coin seems to resemble either "Real B - N.D" or "8 Real SG - N.D."

    Here are a few pictures:

However, could a silver coin possibly be toned this much?

    Thanks for your help!

Given the pictures I don't think it's toning. But the coin is completely different than any I can find. Look closer at the design details - they are not the same, not even close. And the legends are completely different.

I'm afraid I have no books to look up coins from this period for Spain. But that web site is fairly comprehensive - and your coin cannot be found there. The legends bother me more than anything - for while the design can change rather significantly - the legends typically do not, especially the King's name.

This is only an educated guess on my part, but I can only assume this is a reproduction of some type.

I have a comprehensive library of such coins and I studied extensively. I have only now seen your posts about the coin. Let me take a look at your previous posts and I will get back to you. The color is far off the mark.

    This could be a jeton.

This piece, being brass, looks to me that it could be a jeton,
or a type of gaming counter.
