better?....I could be wrong, as I have been once or twice , but I wouldn't grade that coin any better than F12 and that is on a good day. Speedy
The question I have is how did that get into a graded PCGS holder? The hits on the reverse are massive and far exceed what PCGS will normally bodybag a coin for, so how did this end up in that slab? Is it the original coin in the holder or did someone swap it out? Or is the holder fake and the coin is real? Whatever the case may be, I cannot believe that PCGS put that coin in that holder and graded it as such. :goof: Ribbit
Who took the bite out of the top of the letters in the word "ONE" on the reverse. No grade...Damaged!
It is definitely a genuine PCGS holder and coin with no signs of tampering. My reaction was very similar to everyone's here when I first saw this coin. Lets just say that I bought it as more of a curiosity and at a pretty big discount.
Yes if they deem the coin to be miss graded and not a data entry error. In this case if the messed up letters on the reverse are considered post mint damage it would be the difference between a Genuine grade and the grade on the current holder.
Just curious , I wonder how old that holder is , and it definately should be resubmitted , unless you like it as a conversation piece . rzage
How do you know it was a ball that was dropped on this one. It looks more like a sharp edge to me. I would be interested in just what their definition of "damage" is versus what they (thought they) saw on this coin.
You know more than I do about this type of thing I'm sure, but shouldn't the dash between the 1 and the S be longer?
Are you certain that those are man-made hits on the reverse? I'd sure like to see it in hand before condemning it as such.
I sent it to PCGS and it was forwarded to Mr. Willis so now I'm waiting to hear back from him. They have access to the pics they took of it so they can confirm whether or not it is kosher and then they can explain how it got slabbed, since I cannot see any other excuse for the damage than post mint damage. :kewl: I'll post PCGS's reply once I get it. :thumb: Ribbit :goofer:
I agree and that's also why in one of my previous posts I mentioned "if it is post mint damage" because it's hard to tell from the photos. Although in my first post I said it looked like damage.
