I have many questions, first most people selling 1996 mint sets do not include this little extra. secondly how many were minted and do they have any value??Kiss
The Redbook says the mintage was 1,457,000 (the number of 1996 Mint Sets sold). Yes, they are definitely worth much more than a regular 1996 dime, but how much depends on the condition. I bought a PCGS certified 1996-W in MS66FB for around $30-$35 last year I think. Uncertified I'd guess they are worth around $10 since bid on a '96 mint set is $12 or so and the other coins are likely worth very little over face value.
actually, unless you are an expert at grading roosevelt dimes and think you have a potential top population coin, I don't think it's worth sending it in for grading. Figure that grading will cost you at least $30 in fees and shipping, probably a little more. So there isn't much upside in this one as it's probably cheaper to buy one that's already certified if that's what you want.
Withthe amount of these "w" dimes out there on their own, a person can't help but think that maybe someday there may be a shortage of complete 1996 mint sets. I'm going to clean out my local coin shop this week!
