I want to buy this 1833 capped bust half dallor, what would you grade it and what is it worth. They are only show the OBV of the coin. Do you think it's been cleaned? I do. Thanks Bob
It hasn't been cleaned to death. Hard to say from the pics It doesn't look bad but I wouldn't rule a light cleaning out.
It looks about vf30-35 from the images, impossible to say if there is an old cleaning with retoning. Is this coin in a store, so you will have an opportunity to examine it closely on both sides? If it's an internet sale, I would request rev. images too.
Skip it. Coins have two sides (actually three), so show at least two. And at that image size, many problems could be hidden. Think of a car. My rules: - Only look at the passenger side. - Don't get closer than 50 feet. - Now give me book value. Are you going to buy?
It's online and I sent them and email asking for a few pictures of the rev for the ones I'm looking at have to wait and see if I hear from them. Bob
Hopefully you get bigger images of both sides. I already feel like it was cleaned from the dark spotting I think I see on the obverse. This coin could be anywhere from VF to XF. And as Kanga mentioned on auctions like these I automatically skip - I stopped wasting time asking for pictures on auctions like this since sellers usually said "That is the best I can do". So fuzzy, unclear or small pictured auctions I skip. I might miss a few good coins, but oh well.
Given the size of the photographs, it is difficult to get a good read on the coin. That said, I'd bet the coin was at best dipped and at worst harshly cleaned but would want to see the coin in-hand to be sure.
