I am trying to find some Philippine money, paper and coin, from the sixties. This is purely for sentimental reasons. I took the advice from Tre and refined my search on ebay. There weren't many and a couple end today. I"m just curious, is there any numismatic value to these (Peso notes and 25 and 50 centavo coins) or is it just a niche deal?
As stated many times on this and other forums, the value of a numismatic item is a function of its rarity, condition, and the demand for it. If not many people are interested in a particular item or class of items, the prices will be much lower than if "everyone" has to have one. That said, "collect what you enjoy collecting" should be the mantra of every true collector, numismatic or otherwise.
They're available here in almost every shop and are so plentiful that you can get rolls and stacks of them and in BU condition at that. The reason why they're not on ebay is that they're so cheap. The country demonetizes coins so frequently that old coins left in the hands of the unwary and those who can't be bothered or plain lazy to turn them in are plentiful If time and budget permits why don't you just visit us here in the Philippines and at the same time enjoy the sights and attractions. There are lots of proof sets available too.
Here are 4 coins from the Philippines: 1903 One Centavo 1944 Twenty Centavos 1944 Five Centavos 1963 One centavo They might not be worth much but they are cool. How much would they be worth? Wyliecoyote
Well, if they have average wear, around VF condition, then maybe $2 for the four coins. You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
