Hi, I have had this 1966 Jefferson Nickel for a long time and I do not know what the lines are. It is on the obverse and reverse exact same place. Any information would be great. Thanks.
They look like post mint damage to me. The pictures are really small though, are those lines raised or sunk?
This means someone probably intentionalyy etched those in post mint. If it was a canceled die or srcratched die used at the mint those would be raised above the coin.
I thought so at first also, but more than likely something else. The hammer and chisel would not be to easy to make the same mark on the same place on both sides. Possibly something placed in a vice and then pressed. Regardless, it is post Mint damage.
Looks like someone gave it some post mint Peaces~interuptus. Remember the '60's? Me either, so I must have been there.
