I would like some input on what I believe is a cleaned/polished/whizzed coin. Under a magnifying glass it does appear to have some lines above IN GOD WE TRUST on the ob, and also a spot that appears it was attempted to polish out below the flag. Also the rev has some dark/black spots inthe feather on the wing and along the inner rim to the left of the branch. I like the coin, it does not show much wear and has good luster (which my scans may or may not show?) and I don' believe I overpaid @ $11.50. I love the walking liberty design, and maybe I shouldn't be so picky. I guess I am looking for aome opinions for the more experienced and trained eyes around here.

I think agree about it being cleaned... the coin seems kinda lifeless. I think I might agree about the whizzing part too, some of the letters in LIBERTY on the obverse seem to be a bit thick, kinda like some metal was moved by the brush. Would also help explain why there is some dirt on the reverse in deep areas but not any where else. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along shortly to give their opinion too though, its always good to know where I've guessed right and wrong....

still, for the price it doesn't seem to bad. :)

Thanks for the input, I didn't even notice the thick lettering. As far a being lifeless I believe that is my scan, it appears frosty in the scan and that is not the case with this coin...my color adjustment may be off a little

ah sure, blame the scanner... ;) would explain it though. One other check for whizzing, is there any cartwheel left? the brush will strip that off the coin by destroying the flow lines from striking....

Yea, and if I didn't buy coins I could probably buy a scanner that would create a quality scan without me getting in the way! lol But on a serious note I am not farmiliar with the term cartwheel left. I am very new to collecting and do not have all the lingo down. And what are the flow lines from striking?

not been at it that long myself, just a little over a year, but this is kinda important so I'll do my best.... ;)

if you have an uncirculated coin around hold it between you and a light. you should see a reflection on the coin kinda like in the shot below....

notice how there is a lighter area running from about 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock across the coin? that's the cartwheel. it created by the metal flowing out towards the edges of the coin when it is struck. these lines wear away with use, or if the coin is cleaned with an abrasive (brush, silver polish, etc).

there are plenty of people here that have been at this longer and can give a more detailed explanation.

Put coin between thumb and forefinger, hold under a light source. Twist the coin under light source as if thrown like a frisbee. Do not let the coin go. Does the luster go with the light or are there dull areas?

Forgive my raw description, how ever if you google flow lines that will give you a basic understanding also I am providing you a link to better understand the terms us junkies throw around.

Yeah, there are dull areas on the high points, I am getting a much better look now that I have have removed it from the 2X2. The "brush" marks are more pronounced also going across diagonallay downward from 2 to 8 o'clock. Ther are a few frosty spots and no cartwheel. Oh well, I still have a walker with little wear that will fit in my collection. I seems a lot of the walkers i have seen on ebay and in coin shops have a lot of wear unless you get above the $25 pricetag. thanks to you both for the info

Hey, I just learned something about WL's I didn't know. Thank you. My daughter has me very interest in them since she showed me her 36 walking liberty stash. They're all in 2X2's now. Thanks again.

I see nothing in the images to indicate that the coin has been polished or whizzed.
