Hey I know I would like to add a nice Certified (PCGS of course) gold piece to my collection.. I currently have 2 a $5.00 liberty (1905-S), and 1854 $2.50 piece....What my question is what is a cool gold piece, for a great price...I can't see putting more than $600.00 into it. Thanks
You could get a really nice low MS $2.5 Indian or even a $5 Indian. The incuse Indian designs are pretty cool. Could also get an AU $10 Indian if you like those. I really love them, especially the edge design with the raised stars, but you'll never see that in a PCGS slab
I wouldn't "desire" any other gold piece than the $10 US "Indian", even if it isn't representative. I pray that the mint doesn't re-issue a copy of those or I may actually have to buy a piece of their gold junk coin program. I would love to see that design as the next cent obverse....sigh. Jim
I've got the 1925d $2.50 Indian & I love it , that will be my first coin I'll have slabed, I think it might be at least a MS64 .
I vote for an eagle and maybe eventually work towards a denomination set. $10 Indians are currently a bit more than $600 unless you go down to XF or lower. A $10 Liberty would fit in with your other two coins.
Personally I would think it's a very good time to buy gold and may get better with the big scare all the naysayers are talking about. The American Gold Buffalo Coins have done nothing but gone up and that's a very good indication that they will continue. Only down side with that is you would most likely spend your entire $600 buying a 1/10. There's an MS70 on the bay right now, here's the number, 250487684179. With that said it's best to buy gold in person. Shop around, I'm sure you will find something, you really can't go wrong buying AGE. :thumb:
Just as others have said I would look for a PCGS AU58 $10.00 Indian. Look to spent $700. to $800 for one. A nice AU58 generally looks much better than MS60-MS62 coins and are a better value. Take your time look at as many as possible. Check HA.com and check out there selection. Be sure to click on the larger pictures.
I like the Indians, too, but if you wanted to go modern, you might consider a fractional Buffalo. The only problem is that you would only be able to get a certified 1/10th oz (69 or 70?) at that price. Too small for my eyes! Chris
I believe your avatar answers your question. For $600 you might find 1908 half eagle in low MS you like. !908 Indian not Liberty. I forgot they minted both that year.
