Yes this is still Hard to believe, They had been put in 2x2 and locked up in the gun safe. I Think this is a one time glory for but I am still looking for other years to up grade the collection. Thanks for looking. Cheryl
This thread is great.....I love old copper and wish I had some of the wonderful examples all of you have shared. I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to add a special Conder token to the mix although I know it isn't U.S made. Nonetheless, as a RB or BN example, it is pretty cool to me (click on the image bar to get up close and personal!): If you'd like to read more about it, please go here: http://www.cointalk.com/t45569/
Mike, those are some sweet Lincolns and hard to imagine you found them in a roll! And that 1908-S is gorgeous - just my kind of coin!!!! And Jack, I'll pm you about that Charmy coin!!!! Nice token Cat, very interesting piece - thanks for sharing!
Found a couple - the 1908 is a little soft in the feather tips, but still a nice strike in my opinion.
More Charmy NEWPS! Very nice brown Indians Mark, I especially love the luster. Here are a few brand new purchases with photos just in from Todd. The 1908-S/S is the only Indian cent with a repunched mint mark and this one is one of the top pops. The repunching is not hugely bold, but is definitely there (along with a pesky piece of lint!). The 1865 is also a really neat variety. It's a Plain 5 over Fancy 5 variety, and is the plate coin in Rick Snow's 1992 book (meaning that it's the actual coin used in the photograph in the book). Plus it has really pretty greenish blue toning!
Charmy - more jaw dropping beauties from you! I'm curious.....I think most of your collection that I've seen is NGC slabbed. Is that a preference you have an if so, please share why (and I know it's all about the coin). If not, do you just find more Indians with eye appeal slabbed by them vs. PCGS? Do you believe, when it comes to Indians cents, that there is a different standard applied between the two TPGs?
Cat, very good questions, and ones I get asked quite often. And I absolutely look at the coin regardless of what holder it's in. I have a few ANACS coins in my set as well. Personally, I do not have a preference over NGC and PCGS and ANACS. But in my experience, I actually think NGC does a better job of grading copper, and is more knowledgeable on grading toned copper, though I'm sure I'll get hefty amounts of argument or discussion on that one! And yes, I find more pretty toned copper in NGC holders, and it is my opinion that PCGS just prefers to shy away from grading toned copper mostly because it can be very difficult to tell natural vs. artificial toning on some coins so they play it safe. So for this reason, I advise my customers to send toned copper to NGC. So as far as different standards, yes, I believe the TPGs do have their own sets of standards, especially for toned coins, but also for most series. It's partly due to human subjectiveness on eye appeal and what criteria they give more weight to. Hope this answers your questions, and thanks for asking.
I found it in a roll of half dollars it is the same size as a half dollar.I found it about 1960-1962. I have had for a long time.
