I picked up these 2 coins at a Long Island flea market this morning. The shield nickel has its problems but it's a more difficult one to find. The IHC is in great condition as I see no wear but there is some stuff under the ribbon on the reverse. I think a simple olive oil bath is called for here. These are scans and not photos. There will be more and better photos when I get home. All comments and grade opinions are wellcomed. Bruce
You fergot to tell us what you paid for them. :secret: I love finding stuff in off-beat places! :thumb: Ribbit
The 1871 nickels don't seem to want to zoom so I'll try again. I think the 1871 is a "detected" nickel. When you zoom in you can see the porousity. It looks much better in hand. (When I squint). It cost me $10. The 1909 IHC looks many times better in hand and under a loope than these scans show. With a loope it is easy to see the diamonds on the ribbon and I still see no wear. I paid $15 for this coin Bruce
AU details and VG details on the shield nickel. Can really see enough of either - both are coins I like. Glad they found a home.
Next time you're in town ya got to make it out to the Melville show.... (second and fourth week of the month I think)
It was in Bellemore LI NY sponsored by the Bellemore Lions club. The next ones are: 9/6&7, 20, 27 10/4 & 11 11/1 & 29 12/6, 13 and20. On Sunrise Highway LIRR station Bellemore parking lot. There's a flea market every weekend that the Lions club doesn't have one run by a different org in a lot nearby on Sunrise HWY I found at least 6 sellers with coins for sale. Bruce
