What a great way to start off the weekend! I know I said I would post this in the last thread but heck, sometimes making a new thread about somethings you're very excited about is a good thing too ! Pics are here: 100oz Johnson Matthey Silver Bullion $1480 from APMEX.com 1937-D 3 Legged Buffalo Nickel(NGC XF45) $1015 from eBay OBVERSE 1937-D 3 Legged Buffalo Nickel(NGC XF45) $1015 from eBay REVERSE
nice especially the Buff. PS is that scratch on the reverse on the plastic? [just figured that I'd ask before someone else did.]
wow, the 3-Leg looks much better than I would have expected from a cheap find on eBay... well done! think you might have gotten a steal based on the prices we saw these going for at the Arcadia show last week.
Ah not so wise on that silver advise.. Silver is headed up. Nobody smart here will disagree with owning some silver
I think I would rather have the big bar of silver, it's almost the same price and a lot heavier with lots of room for investment growth.
Hey guys, regarding this silver. Does anyone know the best way to store it without getting tarnished? Thanks
I have ridden the gold/silver train many times in the last 4 decades. Very few sell when they should, nor buy when they should. Buying in greedful times is usually followed by selling when one is fearful of the price falling further. IMO. no offense to silver lovers. Jim
Limit the silver bars exposure to air by wrapping the bar in a zip lock bag and store it in a cool, dry, dust free place. Use silica gel packs, a stick of white chalk or activated charcoal near the silver or in the safe deposit box, safe, or place of storage to reduce humidity levels. Interestingly, silver flatware is traditionally kept in lacquered wood cases to prevent tarnish. I like both but a big bar is impressive. You'll have to do some more forex trades and get a matching gold bar now... good luck with your acquisitions. :thumb:
If you check at Home depot for a lacquer spray that can be removed with acetone, Just spray the bar. You can dip it in acetone whenever,( if they were truthful), and it will be ready to sell. Jim
Thanks Krispy.. That was some "Krispy" advice I just got back from the store and bought some white chalk, stuck a few bars in my safe. Also got the sealable ziplock bagie and now the silver bar is resting comfortably. I have some silica packs on order and hopefully that's it. I hear I should also invest in a white cloth to rub it clean every so often. Thoughts on that? And regarding the lacquer spray, is that really necessary? Or is it just for added effect?
I gotta say, it is a little warm in the closet that I put the safe in.. Should I worry long term or is it ok? I mean it's not hot by any means but it's definitely not cool either. I kept the closet door open so it should get some air. Same with the safe, left that sucker open too.
Very nice! I'm with Jim on this, I'd take another buffalo over the silver....or maybe a 1914D Lincoln.
The last three sold in Heritage sales each brought $920 or less. It might have been an OK buy, but it was no steal at $1015. Do not be mislead by what sellers ASK for their coins at shows or via the internet.
What good is a safe if you are going to leave the door open?...and also tell on an online forum where it is located? Speedy
