Looks like this penny has a double mint mark D with the round side of the D in the 9? Is it worth anything?
This is what happens when the post on the die that forms the center of a letter or number breaks off. With the post no longer there, the coin metal fills the void when the planchet is struck. The post on the die forming your coin has broken off in two partial pieces. The next part to go would be the top of the post if the die is not replaced.
