I am 2 mint sets away from having my basic collection of 50 years of proof sets and 50 years of mint sets complete. I need to pick up the 2008 mint set and then the 2009 when it finally comes out. after that i plan to start picking up the missing silver proof sets. I have some, and then I need to get the uncirc. coins from 1982 and 1983 since there was no mint sets those years.
Then I need to find a new direction, I thought about starting to slowly move backward with 1958, 57,etc. but that starts to get real expensive. I still need to pick up a couple of Ike's that aren't in the set and a few more odd ones, but soon i will be at a collectors crossroad. where do I go next?
I have managed to get at least one well circulated example of all of the 20th cent. coins for grandkids, but will soon have to decide a new road to follow on a limited budget, and still have as much fun as I have had on this journey!! any ideas?:headbang:

Roosevelt dimes and Jefferson nickels are great coins to collect on a budget. It's not as easy as many think to find truly nice coins for a gem set of either, especially the circulation strikes. Whatever you decide I hope you have a lot of fun with it.

You could start with a Date set going backwards, maybe even try to focus on just one mint. Maybe the S mint would be interesting since they stopped making business strikes around when your collection starts.
