We are a bit premature here. St Pat's day isn't until the 17th. Right?

Yes, but the 500 years was applicable to 1890. It's been more than another 100 years since then. My brother and his wife visited the relatives a while back.

My grandfather (from Berlin) gave me a sip of his beer when I was 3 years old. He thought it was funny; my mother wasn't happy. I remember not liking the taste much, and I never have.

I think many German kids do have a sip of beer when in private with their parents. At least we did. My dad always said beer is very healthy. :D

At 14 - minors are allowed to consume and possess undistilled (fermented) alcoholic beverages, such as beer and wine in public places, bars or restaurants, as long as they are in the company and have the permission of a Custodial Person. (§ 9 JuSchG (2) and § 1 JuSchG (1) 2)

Funny, I only got plastered once in my life. I was six, we kids where allowed to stay up with the adults to celebrate the New Year. My Mom always made a fruit punch. This was basically.....5 bottles of Asti Spumante champagne/ throw in five cans of peaches/ set in ice. That event, I had five glasses of punch, by midnight I was feeling pretty wasted. Next morning was far worse. The moral of the story, I learned my lesson, never ever got hammered again. I get my "high" from a far better and healthier source/ looking at my coins:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Best thing/ the high is permanent/ good for your health/ and not a waste of $$$$ like when you spend a wad of $$$ on overpriced alcoholic beverages.

I'm pretty sure that the only saint I have on coins is St. George, with the dragon, and it probably wouldn't be a great idea to post him in this thread!

LOL, I have on coins St Wenceslaus, St. Ladislaus, Archangel Michael, but none of them have anything to do with St Patrick :D

Reminds me of Heinrich Heine, "Zur Beruhigung":
    ...
Wir sind Germanen, gemütlich und brav,
    Wir schlafen gesunden Pflanzenschlaf,
Und wenn wir erwachen, pflegt uns zu dürsten
Doch nicht nach dem Blute unserer Fürsten.
    .....

Post them! The more Saints the better!
Here is a "sort of Saint"
Proves that coins still where beautifull in 20th Century.
And I have tons of these....even some from Colonial Canada.
