Group, I have come across a number of times when the SCWC seems to mention some aspect of a coin but does not give enough details or photos to identify the coin in hand. This is often the case with "large date" / "small date" situations. There are times that I think that the information is there to be found but I am simply not searching hard enough. Sometimes that is true. Other times, I just think that my eyes are not sharp enough. I have a Great Britain KM755 penny from 1879 (I also have an 1891 in better condition for comparison) that SCWC has variations involving small or large dates and incuse or raised lines on wreath. For the life of me, I cannot find the wreath that they are referring to let alone determine if the lines are incused or raised. The KM794.2 penny says "high sea level" - in comparison to what? Of course, if I had one of each variety, I could compare them, but without photos in the reference, how should I know what I have? -Daniel
What you do is go look for the photos. You can Google it, search world coin sites, buy books like Spink (although I don't know if it mentions the ones you are asking about or not), or you ask here and hope somebody knows. But doing your own searching is usually best. Google is your friend.
I didn't know the acronym SCWC so I Googled it. Unless we are discussing the "Second Chance Wildlife Center", I still don't know what SCWC is. Very best regards, collect89
Thank you. I recently bought the SCWC on disc & the nicest thing about it IMO is that you can enlarge the photos and they are much higher res than the print version.
If you want pictures about U.K. coins, I can recommend Tony Clayton's beautiful website: http://www.ukcoinpics.co.uk/index.html#index
