    I thought e-bay had a separate type of auction for charities so the funds would go directly to the intended target.

    agreed, stupid stuff.

    He is selling for $5 but says: "They should all be worth .25 - .50 each" for #5 pieces.

    So, can you get a tax deduction of the other $3.75? I think not.

    If he actually give the money to a church and they will provide you with a receipt, why not?

    its not going towards the church though.
    its for HIS mission trip.
