They found the coins!! The suspects were arrested due to a disturbance, and when they ran the info on them, they found out they were wanted!! Unfortunately two were sold, but they gave all the info on who they sold them to. All the coins were cracked out of the slabs, so they are no longer pcgs/cac'd, but I plan on sending them back for certifications as soon as the police department releases them. Hopefully they did not damage them; I did not get a chance to look at them under the loupe to see, since the police are holding them. Unbelievable day! Around 40% of my wives jewlery was recovered so far, and around 90% of mine!!!
Yep. The whole story is quite interesting, the background of the person, the situation as how they picked us, how they got arrested, etc.
Alright!! Fantastic news!! Congrats. You get the stuff back and a couple more scum bags are off the street. Great news. Seems like a lot of times people get lucky when stupid criminals are involved. Smart criminals, you have almost no chance. You lucked out big time.
Looking forward to hearing the rest of those details when you get a chance. Glad to hear this had a happy ending.
Congrats on the breakin recovery! I hope that nothing has been damaged. Its to bad in a case like this we can not request a sentence. Maybe a few lost hands would make a deterrent for future thoughts of doing it again. But no, they will go to court, plea out and get probation, maybe a few months behind bars and be back out stepping up from B and E's to armed Robberies.
That's fantastic news! Please contact whoever has the coins and make sure they are not being mishandled, since they are of of their holders. I have heard horror stories about coins being tested, thrown loose in a bag, cleaned, picked up without regard to fingerprints, etc. I don't want to alarm you, but do want to scare you enough so that you make a call.
Yeah the officer in charge seems like he knows what the value was and how to handle them. He was handling them with cloth gloves. The people who broke them out of the slabs obviously did not care, you can see prints on them. He asked what to put them in so I mentioned for him to put them either in cloth bags or a paper envelope individually. I dont think they are going to do any testing on them since they know the suspects.
Wow that is fabulous news, really glad it turned out well for you so far! Definitely pass along more details when you can. So was it an "inside job" or just lucky robbers?
Lucky. The coins are on the way to PCGS via Laura at Legend Numismatics, and the two had a day in court today and are back in jail. If anybody in Western Illinois see's a nice 1907 No Motto let me know... lol probably melted by now but oh well. Got most of it back except a lot of modern's (e.g. reverse proof anniversaries, etc)... Will let everyone know the outcome of the grading next week. Hopefully they will get re-CAC'd also... they really are beautiful coins.
Here are the results of the resubmissions.. They haven't gone to CAC yet. I am resubmitting the two coins that came back as 64's one more time... Oh well could have been worst.
