If it's a valuable item being shipped in the within the United States I would only go with Registered Mail. Every individual has to sign for that piece of mail and it's their responsibility until it's handed of and signed by the next individual in the shipping route. Also the item is separated from the other mail on the workroom floor. Lou
That is 100% correct...and is the best way by far! It is a little slower but it will arrive safely! RickieB
connor, just something else you may want to take into consideration. The area where I'm located has very heavy rains on most days and unfortunately some of the mail will get wet. Also if your item is place in a mail sack with another item that may have some type of liquid that may seep out of the package your Item may get damaged. You may want to insert your note in some kind of water resistant bag maybe like a zip lock bag. Lou
I would say that Registered Mail is the safest relatively inexpensive delivery service in the country. Any safer and you would need an armed escort.
"insure delivery in the US" is key here. If you mean "send FROM the US TO the US" that's very different from "FROM SOMEWHERE TO the US", as I'm painfully learning (see my "stolen French banknotes" thread). In the US, a signature on Form 3849 (the slip the postman asks you to sign when you receive a package) does not release you from making an insurance claim against a loss. That is, you can sign the slip, and later that day open the package and if something is amiss, you can still file a claim (and presumably receive insurance coverage). In my case, FROM France, to US, I am having trouble with this particular situation. In France, when you sign the slip (whether registered or other type of signed mail), you release all insurance coverage. So you must open all parcels in front of the postman before you sign, and then refuse them if all is not in order. The issue being in the US, of course, is that the postman is not accustomed to, and typically does not want to wait around while you open packages. He's been trained to the US policy, and will gladly tell you that there's no need for him to wait, that your signature only acknowledges receipt of the package, etc, etc. Dave
