Here's a French Jeton (I think it's French) that I have: I'll post others when I get the time to take pics. :goofer: Ribbit

The only city in the county, Hudson, takes pride in having[ the oldest recognized fire company in the state! J W Edmonds Hose Co. 1 was formed in 1794.] Columbia County is located in central eastern New York, approximately 100 miles north of New York City and approximately 30 miles south of the state capitol, Albany. Tokens are a lot of fun to collect. I buy one and learn about it and find a new one after that. Never learned much about this one.
Im a little confused when you say latest versions of conders ? None of mine have anything other than the usual patina one would expect to see on a 200 year old copper/bronze. There are modern day replicas and i dare say counterfeits,i wouldnt expect it to be shiny unless its truly unc, these examples do exist but command large premiums.
tokens I'm also very interested in tokens- mostly have been picking up hard times, civil war, and (not sure the exact name of the category, but what i mean is "tokens that advertise businesses on them, specific to new york, during the 1800s). it's been hard to find good resources online- i'd love to see a checklist or a guide to scarcity or price guide, and an image gallery. on ebay, for example, if someone lists a token and says it's an R8, can i believe that? is there an actual standardized checklist of rarity or is this an example of someone making a guess? i'm aware of the rulau book, but haven't picked it up yet because i can't figure out what the most recent edition is, where to get it at a decent price, etc. i picked up another exonumia book on amazon, but it wasn't nearly as helpful as i had hoped. any suggestions, leads to good sites, checklists, galleries, etc, would be appreciated. thanks
Oh, what I meant is I've been noticing some Conder tokens on ebay lately, some are in slabs and some weren't. Anyways I just checked and none are listed today. They appeared to have been sprayed with ClearCoat or something similiar. They were shiny and or bright reddish brown in color. No concern now as I don't see anymore. I don't think they were counterfeit though, I was just wondering how and why they were so shiny. If I see one again, I will get back. On a separate note here's an Indian token I picked up a couple weeks ago. sellers pics
Hiya Fret, been awhile since we chatted. I got this token from the Imperial British East Africa Company this week, Year 1888. Traci :hatch:
Nice token Traci. My all time favorite of yours is this one you showed earlier (pic posted) very unique. You have an amazing collection for sure!! :secret:
If this happens to fit your category (Stearns Bicycle, Syracuse, NY, 1898) I'll ask my question here: This one is pot metal but I understand they exist in copper. Have you seen one? Photo?
Yes alot of coin collectors feel the same way. All you gotta do is look up Conder tokens on ebay and see how many ppl do see a value in them. It's all up to you, more for us anyways.
There is so much out there in the way of tokens. I enjoy them as much as anything and love the prices. Last January I traveled half way across the US to the Fun show in Florida. Only bought two items. An 8$ token and a $1500 nickel. The price don't matter. Here are a couple of my favorites.
