I got a new Brown Ike in the mail today. This one with deeper cameo for sure, although still hard to photograph through the plastic. I picked it up for less than $15.25 with shipping. There is a slight blue toning which is somewhat exagerated in the pictures. I am going to see if I can borrow my families camera with a macro lens and get better pictures. The plastic is very hard and I need more precision than I can get with the point and shoot. I think these would grade well. I wish I know how to get them out of the casing in a non-desructive way.

I like it. Don't try to crack it out.

They are not really that blue in the hand. The camera picked it up :). It is a terrific strike, though and the earth on the reverse is wonderful.

I don’t understand why people are so impressed with these cloudy Proof Eisenhower Dollars. Yes, the mint packaging has caused many of these coins to tone, but there are still a few pieces that have not turned. I bought a 1973-S in an antique store a few years ago that was still bright.

Most any other Proof that has gone cloudy is not admired. Why are these pieces the exception?

There are many reasons, I think. For me I like the holder (looks a bit like the GSA holder for Morgans), I like big silver. These generally have frosty devices. SOME have very cool toning. Most have very few hits or blemishes (beyond the hazing). They are inexpensive. They were stuck during my lifetime. I like the reverse design. I just picked one up on Saturday that was $12, $4 bucks above spot right now, so if I need to sell for some reason (I am a collector and not a dealer) I can recoup most of my cost. The hazing/toning is not as nice as a couple of others I have. I am under the impression (maybe mistakenly) that I could crack it out and use MS70 or EZest to remove the clouds). Honestly I prefer leaving them in the GSA. From my understanding that is what caused the toning on some. Plus it looks retro that way. You can have them graded like the Morgan gsa with the sticker wrapped around too. I know they aren't compact to store. Mine are in a tote.

    Hmmm, they kinda look "ghostly."

    A new collection subcategory? "Ghostly Ikes" . . . . ?

That's haze that lowers the grade not blue toning

I just picked up a few Ikes and will post them. I am sort of down to just posting interesting pick ups at this point, in the face of so many uncomfortable discussions over manusua. But I got some Ikes and a small story that is worth transmitting. So tonight I will write it up.
