    Vertigo Did someone say bust?

Going to be doing my first NGC submission soon. I think I pretty much have the paperwork figured out how to fill it out. Just wondering if there are any tips or things I might need to know before I get started. Some coins seem to fall under "early bird/standard designation. Some are valued under 300 but was thinking i can just put them all under the same designation? Basically there are 12 coins and I'm sure 3 are over 300. But I didn't want to wait the longer wait on the others. So I'm guessing that can be done assuming i want to pay the extra cost per submission?

Yes if you want to put the low value coins in a higher tier you can always do that

I would highly recommend getting an opinion from a dealer or trusted collector friend on the worthiness of the coins you are submitting. I didn't on my first submission. In my excitement of submitting I missed some pretty obvious stuff (in hindsight).

Good luck but don't expect to get what you wish for;). 20210308_113652.jpg

Yes, you can always put the lower value coins in a higher tier and pay a little more, but if you try to put the higher value coins in a lower tier to save some money and they should, God forbid, be lost or damaged, the grading service is only liable for the declared value of each coin.

Ngc will upcharge for them too if they think it was a good faith effort and it just grader higher than you thought. If it’s not even close like a 4 figure coin I think they may just go ahead and break it off to it’s own submission after contacting you

These are mostly bust halves, one half dime, one draped bust quarter, and a 1916 d mercury dime. The only one that might have a problem is the bust quarter. It has a scratch on the reverse in the field between STATES and OF. The scratch and surrounding area is caked in patina. I know this one can go either way. Even if it details I'll be alright with it. My plans are to encapsulate these and send to CAC for their stickers. Most of these were bought low enough the grading fees aren't a problem.

Eventually I am going to want to sell these. I don't want hundreds of ungraded coins when the time comes. It's much easier to sell slabbed. And I know some think CAC is a gimmick. But the fact is those coins can be marked up ridiculously and they will sell simply because of that little sticker.

I think it's pretty important before submitting to be able to detect cleaned or details coins, questionable toning ect. in general. This screws up a lot of first time submission results.

Also I think you should be aware of varieties, VAMS, Overton numbers, DD, whatever it is, for the series you are sending, and be sure they do attribute it, and make the form to have it done. Otherwise they won't do it.

I also think it's a good idea to take good pictures of everything you send in obverse, reverse, and take insurance. If anything goes wrong or a discrepancy you don't want the grader or the shipping company holding all the cards and you caught with your pants down. If you can record packing the box to send even better, just to be extra safe... things happen.

    That's all I got.

I have pictures of everything. I also know the date purchased. I have the receipts from the LCS and I also have screen shots taken of all auctions won. All I have to do is go to the date purchased in Google photos and there will be the screen shot of the win, the auction, the description. I even screen shot the bid history, the sellers pictures. And everything is noted with the coin. I place them in air tites and place those in small ziploc. I write date purchased, what i paid, the year and mint. Any other notes. My wife and kids know nothing about coins. I just don't want them getting screwed if I kick the can. That's why some of these older coins I feel just need encapsulated. They are easier to sell and there's an idea of value. I'm probably not doing any attributions because of the additional cost. If they were r4+ I would. These are all r3-.

My last submission (economy+modern) took nearly 3 months to get back. Just my two cents: the bust quarter and 16-D have to go standard, but I don't think most of the other coins warrant the extra cost. If you don't wanna wait that's fine, but you're tacking on an extra $13/coin and they may not come much sooner with NGC backed up like they are. On say 8 coins that could've gone economy, you're looking at an extra $100+.

Unfortunately most of your coins have issues, such as scratches/cleaning, which will prevent a straight grade, or they are low grade coins. I don‘t think you’ll be happy with the results and there‘s no need to submit them to CAC.

I may end up sending some in on the longer one. I am aware of the extra cost. Just didn't really want to do two separate submissions.
