Here's one that I know you'll like Jason. Sadly I am no longer the owner but at least I still have the images. [IMG]

You liked those then you'll love the pre-slabbed images. When I sold this coin on ebay the buyer paid a VERY strong price for it. He thought that he may have located the other coin to make this a mated set but that didn't come through. That would have been one SWEET mated pair!!

Not a nickel but one of my faves. I have had this coin for many years and it's one of my "keepers". Not too spectaular but I love Franklins and I love errors so this is a double whammy for me.

Hi Sylvester, This looks more like a engraving error than a rotated die in the classic sense.I would think it would probably be more valuable as such since a rotated die would be fairly common on hammered coinage. Nice coin, very unusual. ~ Jim

    Ah well it's not mine...

But it's not an engraving issue, it's definately a rotated die, (double struck), because it should be a cross on the reverse and no Y, also there should be three pellets in the four angles.

Definately a minting error, but as you say hammered coins are more common for errors, it's just i've never seen anything on this scale before.

But as a rotated die,the cross would still be there at a different angle like a X maybe. This should no true cross, but rather some weirdly shaped blunder. I suspect this coin may be better than you think. ~ Jim

I'd bet on a mistake made when the die was engraved. It looks like the engraver messed up really bad but did his best to correct it. Many early Philippine coins have retro engraving, where the date and designs were engraved as they should be on the coin, but when the dies are used, everything is reversed. A very cool area of study! ~ Jim

Ha here is an error for you... (i sold it when i upgraded to one without the unsightly die flaws that ruined the appeal of the coin.)
