I got a box from ICG today!!! Is there anything more exciting than getting back graded coins that you were kind of clueless about? Now to my untrained / nearsighted eyes, these two coins looked at about the same grade - I paid $125 each for them at the Charter Oak auction in February. One turns out to be a details AU, the other an MS FH. I was mildly disappointed that my 1921 that I thought was a solid VG came back G6 Details, so I guess my G4 ANACS still owns that spot. Life is crazy. My new favorite child is an MS63 Full Head Standing Liberty Quarter. I think I'll call her Kate. I'm rewriting my will, don't tell the human kids. This would be good for you to use them as a reference. Note the differences in the coins. Why is the one cleaned and details and the other is not? You don't need to answer except for it helping you in the future.

What does the FH stand for?

FH stands for extra fancy / buyers premium! The price difference between a regular MS63 and a MS63FH for this coin is $100 minimum. It basically means that you can see the hairline on the head of the quarter and that the hair and face are clear - a really good strike basically, or even better, as Bradley T. notes above.

Full Head is a FH designation that is used on Liberty Standing Quarters. Just like FBL on Franklin Halves for full bell lines and SB on Mercury Dimes for Split Bands.

I just was comparing some of my PCGS / NGC / ANACS / ICG grades in light of my brand new box back from ICG. Anyone who thinks ICG is overgrading / easy is nuts IMO.
