If someone has the time could you please post some pictures of graded Walking Liberty Halves in various grades. Maybe XF, AU, and lower MS states. I'm having a hard time grading the ones I have. Or if there is a site that has decent pictures please post it.
I bought a bunch of low grade Walkers and this one was part of the deal. Average price on the half's was a little over melt. I thought it kind of silly to have a coin like this slabbed, the cost of which far exceeds the value. Click the image for a larger pic.
If you can post photos of your coins, I am sure it would lead to an informative discussion on aspects of grading these. I'm afraid most of mine are raw (teens and twenties) except for a single vf and then a couple of 65 and 66's.
As noted why not just post some of your coins and ask for opinions on thier grades? Take one of what you think is a G, then a F, then an Unc or MS and photo them, post the photos here and ask for opinions. That way you could compare those with all the rest of yours. This is one of the great reasons to go to a coin store or coin show where you could see many, many such coins and get a great idea of what they are graded as.
There is a site called ' The coin Page' . It has pictures of every us coin you can think of. When you call up say a 1935 walking liberty, right under the coins picture is a line " determined value from teletrade auctions". Click on this and see the realized value for each coin on different auction dates. Hope this helps. zeke
You should buy a copy of the ANA 6th edition. It describes in detail with pictures what to look for by grade for every U.S. coin series. I've found it to be very helpful. I was using it to grade WLH's yesterday after I picked up 12 of them at an estate sale for 4 bucks a piece including a 1918-S. A couple graded VF but most had poor eye appeal. A deal like that doesn't come around very often.
Just go to Heritage and search the archives for the coins in the grades you wish to see. You'll find all you want - www.ha.com
