Does anyone have a preference? likes / dislikes? looking for up to date info and current prices... they both look pretty good to me. Ryan
I read both, not a lot of difference between the two.I like Coinworld and it’s sister publication Bank Note reporter.
COINage has very good articles, but CoinValues has that great monthly feature showing how to grade a particular series of coin.
Both will be high and low...waht I do is use a OLD CoinValue for some prices...look in a Gray Sheet for some and then Internet is the best....after that if I'm buying I just look at what I'm willing to pay...if its over list prices that can't be helped. Speedy
Ebay is great for pricing. You can see what people pay for an auctual coin. Heritage has great pricing info also. I do not like the mags for pricing
If you're looking for prices than Coin Values is simply a necessity. Indeed, most collectors should probably review this once in a while even if they are familiar with pricing. Coinage is hands down the best numismatic publication on the market (even if you might want to throw it once in a while. ). Page for page it can not be beaten. Coin World may be more of a necessity since they come out more often but Coinage has a very high percentage of interesting articles by some of the best writers in the business.
Check realized auction prices - they are the most accurate. I haven't seen a price guide yet ( other than Grey Sheets ) that aren't all over the board with values. And yes that includes them all.
My top 3 coin price guides By no means do I profess these three to be the best, as I am certainly no expert, rather a somewhat opinionated amateur at best. First of all, I buy the Red Book every year as a general retail guideline. Secondly, I buy the Greysheet, one with page 3A and another with page 3B at least once a month to get dealer bid/ask prices. Finally, I check various auctions, including e-bay, on a regular (almost daily) basis. I have determined that if I am able to find coin(s), sets, etc. at Greysheet "Ask" prices that I'm doing ok. However, when there is something I really want, as long as I can obtain it for at or slightly above the Red Book price, or at the going auction house rate, I'll buy it. I almost always shop around for the best buy; but occasionally I'll pay more if it's a U.S. Mint sell-out and I really want the item. An example of the latter was the 2004 Westward Journey Coin and Medal Set. I paid more than 3 x the mint issue price just because I'd missed it during the mint sale and really wanted it. Sometimes I make out well this way, and other times I get burned price-wise. However, as someone else mentioned before on this site- if you want it bad enough, get it!!
coin value nor coinage i prefer numismatic news "coin market" and the coin dealer newsletter. coin prices is the worst. because the prices were dated too long ago. and those books like krause world coins were also dated too long.
